Blackmon is a beast, could end up being Dez Bryant +1, but I don't think he goes higher than Julio Jones.

Julio > Blackmon

might as well move this over here...

My realistic top players for the steelers to draft, keeping in mind alot can change between now and draft day

1. Patrick Peterson - CB LSU (stretch)
2. Mike Pouncy - OG FLA (Maurkices bro)
3. Jonathan Baldwin - WR PITT (Mike Wallace is a superstar and Eman and Antonio Brown are doing a great job as rookies. With Hines still playing at a high level if we can get a big receiver our WR core will be top 5)
4. Aaron Williams - CB Texas
5. Drake Nevis - NG LSU (Big Snack is getting old)
6. Gabe Carimi - OT Wisc

Wishlist:

2. AJ Green
3. Jones
4. Blackmon
5. Baldwin
6. Ingram
7. Williams

Like I said, its deep at receiver

There's a lot of players I'd like to target in the draft this year, but a few problems arise.

1. A lot of free agents this year from the Giants and I don't know who we'll resign
a. Steve Smith
b. Ahmad Bradshaw
c. Mathias Kiwanuka
d. Barry Cofield
e. Kevin Boss

A lot of fairly big names in terms of the Giants. Of them I see the Giants resigning Ahmad and Smith without a doubt. After that I'm thinking a one year "show me" contract for Kiwi. Cofield is a big question, he had a quiet great year for the Giants and I'd be sad to see him go. Boss is solid, unspectacular but solid. I won't lie I miss the days of Shockey out there and hope we can get someone out there who at least semi resembles him.

2.The draft will also be heavily impacted by who the Giants go for in free agency. The Giants MO over the last few years has been to address a position of need in free agency, and then address another position in the draft. (This year they addressed the Safety position by signing Antrel Rolle and Deon Grant, and then built depth along the defensive line again with their first two picks of JPP and Linval Joseph(dt))

This year I'm hoping to sign one of the following in free agency...

Barrett Rudd LB TB
Chad Greenway LB MIN
Stephen Tulloch LB TEN
Paul Posluszny LB BUF
D'Qwell Jackson LB CLE (hopefully he can stay healthy, a beast if he does)

Basically I'd like some ready made talent bought for the linebacking corps. Jonathan Goff is a backup and will never be a true playmaker, Keith Bulluck is one and done in New York, Clint Sintim is a bust, and Michael Boley is wildly inconsistent. I honetly feel that this is the Giants only true short coming. Yes the offensive line is aging, and yes Eli threw wayyyy to many picks. But we have begun drafting young bodies to eventually replace the vets on the O-line. I'd also like another corner or two for depth. Webster is very solid, Terrell Thomas is turning into a beast, and Aaron Ross is ok. So basically in this draft all i want is...

1. Offensive Linemen
2. Line Backers
3. Cornerbacks

Otherwise I'd say the giants are pretty well set elsewhere.

Is it baseball season yet? Oh ****, I'm a Mets fan... is it next years football season yet?

u think steve smith is gonna get a new contract after knee surgery?  and until last year the giants usually dont make a big run in FA, i even remember there super bowl year all they did was draft and they had like 5 solid players contribute from that draft.  FA is so overrated, they rarly make an impact and there usually 1 and done stop gap guys.  im wondering how the FA is gonna b effected with no CBA and a potential lock out.  i think we are in for a very weird and different offseason

Where are Chad Johnson, TO and Randy Moss gonna end up?

I bet one ends up on the Redskins. It will be interesting to see if the Pats want Moss back and I think TO wore out his welcome in every city. If he didnt have such a respectable year I dont think he would be playing next year, but someone might take a chance on him

moss needs to be on a winning team or else he just shuts down.  but most teams dont need a type of player like him.  i wouldnt be shocked to see him go back to NE, but i doubt it and i have no idea.

owens i wouldnt b shocked if nobody signed him.  ya he had a good year with the bengals but they went 4-12 and couldnt wait to get rid of him.  5 teams have said hes not worth it anymore, so unless hes willing to sign for a small deal (which i dont see him doing) i dont see any1 signing him unless a teams WR gets hurt

chad still has something left.  my best bet r 2 teams: pats and dolphins.  he is close with bill belicki and he has shown he can make the most out of a wr.  i also dont think chad would act up on the pats so that would be a good fit.  i say the phins cuz he lives in miami, they need a #2 wr and it seems the owner is more concerned about filling the staidum than winning games, which chad could definitly help.

also the jets for one of these guys.  they have taken chances on a lot of risky guys, rex can handle them pretty well.  plus holmes and edwards are both FA so depending on the money they want they might need to take one of those guys. my best bet would be moss there

chad johnson to the pats would be awesome. how about vince young, mcnabb and carson palmer?

i think young goes to either the phins or SF. If the dolphins can somehow get hardbaugh plus a good QB, not saying young is that guy, plus someone like Ingram in the draft they could turn it around very quickly. Ocho would also help that cause. Danny, theres reason to be optimistic!

McNabb prolly the vikings. they seem to like veterans and maybe mcnabb will finally get some respect. Palmer prolly stays since lewis is staying but his career is on serious decline. Does anyone go thru more good receivers than the bengals? Ochocinco, TO, Houshmenzadeh, Chris Henry, Antonio Bryant, and they still will have nothing after this season and will draft a WR high.

Check out this gem I found in the comment section of profootballtalks latest article "With Dolphins closing in on Harbaugh; Dolphins coaches start to pack boxes", under the username phinfandan:

phin.JPG

Can this be our good friend Danny Pflieger? Dan- if you werent convinced by my suggestion of picking up Harbaugh, VY, Ocho and Ingram I'd be happy to have you root for the Steelers if you can no longer support the Phins!

This poses another questions thou... why are you posting on PFT and not the forum??

i also heard this year is stacked with qb prospects.  if luck comes out there saying hes the best since manning.  the dude from missouri is apparently really good.  then there ryan mallot which has a huge arm and most likely a 1st rounder.  we got jake locker who i think sucks but some1 can make hima  project.  and o btw, the best player in college football with cam newton.

Fish, couldn't agree more with FA, the draft is the only way to continue to improve in the NFL. That's why teams like Carolina and Washington suck so bad.

Like I've said all month, Ochocinco is as good as gone.

So now that Luck is staying at Stanford, who goes #1?

OK, so now that Luck is gone I'm going to bold predict the first pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. As much as I don't like it because I want him....

Roger Goddell: Welcome to the 2011 NFL Draft. I'd like to thank Dan Pflieger from Email Chain for being our honorary announcer of the first pick. I'd also like to shout out to Mark Fischer, the softest scardest NFL fan out there.
Dan: Thanks Rog, great to be here.
Rog: So whose it going to be?
Dan: With the first pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select.....(open envelope)......Cam Newton, QB, Auburn University.

So there it is guys, I'm predicting Cam Newton goes to the Carolina Panthers.

Blaine Gabbert, QB Missouri

i would be shocked if that guy goes #1 nick, nobodies every ehard of him until he declared for the draft last week.  when was the last time a qb went #1 that u never heard of until after the season was over?  now i heard hes good so im not saying he wont go high, but #1 is a strech i think.  newton on the other hand u never know, i could see him going #1 or even falling a bit.  my guess is that de from clemson to replace peppers

If Gabbert gets taken over Cam Newton or even Jake Locker, it will only prove how bad the Carolina Panthers are at personnel decisions.

locker killed his stock this season. newton is good but gabbert is a a pro-ready QB and i think he will sky rocket during the offseason and combine.

when the regular season ends doenst mean a whole lot draft boards will look nothing like they do today in april.

I think I can claim the title for Mel Kiper Jr.

Take a look at my mock draft, sent to my brother. Notice the date. I killed it. Notice not only the correct players at the correct picks, but the correct players taken at different spots in the draft.

1-7 almost perfect, except for switching Berry and Okung.

13. Iupati taken later by SF.

16. & 17. Correct pick at correct spot.

22. Correct pick at different spot.

28. Right player at different spot.

Also note, Kareem Jackson was first CB taken. That is shown by my mock draft. Nick thought I was crazy.

umm yea that was 3 days before the draft haha. The top 5 were prety much already locked up

they havent even had the combine yet so its a little different picking now. i dont think if you did a mock draft today for the draft in april you would be anywhere close, no one would

You know what I meant. And obviously you've never tried to do a mock draft, because that mock draft I did was one of the best ones I've ever seen someone do. Go look at Mel Kipers or whoever, you wont find one better. Idiot.

No, but I got it DVR'ed.

He is an NFL agent, he will have insider information. Not impressed. Depends on when he made that predicition. If its even remotely close to the draft, I'm not impressed. Those fools are wheeling and dealing like crazy.

Here is how the game works.

1 point for every player on your mock draft actually taken in first round.
5 points for correct player by correct team (any spot in the draft)
2 points for correct position taken at correct spot

Fish, you can provide tons of analysis on our mock drafts.

i agree fairly is a beast n gonna be a top 3 pick (maybe even #1) but if u noticed the way oregon runs the spread, there blocking is to intentually not touch the defense tackle and to read off him.  normally if he goes to the qb, they hand off to james or vise versa.  but he was instructed to just hit the qb no matter what, which obviously oregon was not expecting, making him seem more dominant then he was with all the unblocked big hits he had.  part of this was the 40 day lay off they had to game plan, and all those extra big hits made him seem like he was a monster.  now, dont get me wrong i think fairly is very good, but lets not think he is gonna have the impact suh did, who consistently faced double and triple teams in college

That rule can definitely be included.

Nick, your going to see my scouting abilities once this is over. I meticulously watch the Scouting Combine, and follow the Pro Day results online.
