lets list some things that people hype up so much but in the end they are next to meaningless or ppl forget about them within 48 hours. here is my list of early contenders, hopefully u ppl can list a few more and we can rank them
1. NFL Combine 2. National Signing Day 3. Baseball HR Derby (only cool when guys where on roids and smashing the ball) 4. Every other bowl game other than the bcs games 5. College bball postseason tournaments (major conferences) 6. Daytona 500/Indy 500 7. danny pfilegers power rankings

8. Fantasy Baseball "heres a random team lets see whos can score 1-14 runs first" game 9. Preseason football 10. World Cup (dont act like you like soccer now that its not going on) 11. The stupid snapping game that kearns friends play 12. Although it was better this year the NBA dunk contest has sucked for a while. Its all about props now keep in mind that the game winning dunk was an everyday two hander 13. Celebrety NBA All Star game
while i agree with ur list of everything being stupid, i dont think overrated is the best word for it. i guess u could argue ppl who think if there team goes 4-0 in the preseason then there going to the playoffs (couch skins fans cough) then yes i agree preason can be look at as overrated, but most ppl by now know is meaningless.
slam dunk contest is usually in most ppls top 5, but i always like it so i didnt include that one.
after learning how to play the game kearns friends were playing i would say it is extremely overrated as they SPELL OUT THE PERSONS NAME and act like they can read minds
i think its pretty cool...for about 2 minutes, then i agree its dumb. why kearns was so interested in this for 6 hours last week is beyond me. i just think he likes a challenege, which is why he went after meg lea for so long
no way the world cup is overrated, that being said im not trying to argue that soccer isn't very exciting any other time. also the world cup is pretty much only good when the US is competitive, so pretty much im not arguing the world cup is that great, im just saying it isnt overrated. its pretty much right where it should be.
ur description of overrated sports events was "ppl forget about them within 48 hours". dont act like u cared about the world cup 2 days after it was over
I think its more that I love watching America be better at things than other countries than I like watching world cup. but thats just me. (same reason why ill somewhat watch the winter/summer olympics (I'm looking at your Olympic Basketball))
as u said, america only cares when its the world cup. i never said i watch soccer year around, but the world cup itself is awsome and not overrated at all, its the only time any1 cares so that aspect it is not. and i disagree, i dont havent forgot about it 48 hours later, i will always remember where i was we tied england (blacked out at magerks) or that game where landon donovan scored in the 91st minute.
if u dont like it thats 1 thing, but america as a whole loves the world cup
