i use to love the winter games as a kid but now that they are on i realize i have somewhere between "minimal interest" and "0 interest" in them thus far. did anything good happen this weekend? and when does the hockey start? i can get into that if the US does well.
olympic hockey is amazing. its like one big all star tournament. plus the olympic ice is much bigger than nhl rinks so its much more wide open. with the speed these guys have it just makes it even more exciting.
early hockey favorites -- USA, Canada, Russia, Finland
i dont get how those skiiers do moguls. my knees hurt just watching.
bob costas pink eye has been the MVP for me thus far.
bob costas being replaced for the next few days to let his eye(s) heal from a nasty case of pink eye. at first it was just the left eye but now it is both of them. somebody musta been farting on his pillows over the weekend!

surprised no one has talked about the hockey game the other day, and even more surprised i was up at 8am on a saturday morning. i'll admit, that was more due to the fact my dumbass 22 year old roommate was locked out of the house while getting breakfast n didnt have his phone on him so instead he pelted snowballs at my window until it either broke or i woke up and let him back inside the house. regardless, great game, havent been that into a hockey game since last olympics when nicks canadian crosbeys beat my usa team in the gold medal game. took me 4 years to get over but im back and that over time/shoot out was epic. a few questions tho:
1. how the hell does ovi not even get 1 chance in the shootout? i thought he was the best scorer in hockey, is he that bad in shootouts?
2. i know it worked but don't you think it was dumb to put oshie out there for basically every shot? there's only so many moves a guy has right, what if the goalie caught on?
ovi is a shooter. he stands in one spot gets a pass and shoots it 200mph into the net. he doesnt have moves like some of the other guys. oshie on the other hand is a break away specialist. i guess in theory there are only so many moves all players can do but i dont think oshie was running out anytime soon.
kovalchuk (russian shooter who kept shoointg) had the best goal with his change up shot thou. as easy as it looked that **** was amazing. he played for the NJ devils and left a $100m contract to go back to russia and play in the khl for much less. gary bettman and some ppl in the nhl were really really pissed at him for that. hes a top 5 player thats like tom brady going to the CFL.
that was one of the best hockey games every played. datsyuk was the best player on the ice. the disallowed goal was pretty weak. those 2 canada and sweden are the top 4 and hopefully will play in the semis. funny thing is it took russia a shootout in their 3rd game to even make the medal rounds.
when you take the best of the best hockey is very comparble to basketball however that only happens a few games every 4 years. it seems like every other game the US plays its 7-1. the only time you hear about the NHL in the US is when they fight which isnt allowed in the olympics and i like that. also, don't compare an olympic game between 2 of the worlds best teams vs a regular season nba game, of course it is not comparable. however, nba finals last year with the spurs and heat was awesome and was much better to watch than who ever the hell played in the NHL finals.
