Never too early.  I'll be honest I've only heard of 7 or 8 of these guys.  Don't understand how winston isn't #1 but we'll see what happens.  also watch out for bama's RB TJ Yeldon who is going to be a true junior and I'm sure will come out early.  enjoy!

1. Oakland Raiders – Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon. If he stayed, would he have been a Top 5 pick in 2014? Derek Carr was only a 2nd round pick, so the Raiders not wedded to him (see Smith, Geno in 2013).

2. Tennessee TitansBrett Hundley, QB, UCLA. With an improved offensive line, Hundley should have a monster season. Needs to improve his accuracy. Doesn’t fit the mold of a Ken Whisenhunt guy, but we’ll see more of Hundley in the pocket this year.

3. Jacksonville JaguarsLeonard Williams, DT, USC. Sophomore monster (6-5, 290) had five sacks and 12.5 TFL and could be 1st team All-American. On paper, the Jaguars are 4-5 win team.

4. Dallas CowboysJameis Winston, QB, Florida State. Feels like the Romo run is near the end and last year was as good as he was going to get. Everyone else in the NFC East improved. Dallas didn’t. Dallas will score a lot of points, but its defense will be atrocious. Adios, Jason Garrett.

5. Miami DolphinsCameron Erving, OT, Florida State. Surprised he didn’t leave school early. Dolphins could be looking QB here if Ryan Tannehill doesn’t produce in year three, but I’m not that down on him.

6. Minnesota VikingsMario Edwards, DE, Florida State. Modest stats last year – 3.5 sacks, 9.5 TFL – but the defense was loaded and I expect him to be a major breakout star in 2014. At 6-3, 275, he was 3rd-rated recruit in the high school class of 2012. Sidenote: Will this be Adrian Peterson’s last year with the Vikings?

7. Carolina Panthers – Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama. Cooper is a major stud – though Kyle Fuller played him real tough in 2013 – but how high he goes will partially depend on 1) How he performs without McCarron and 2) how a Top 10 2014 pick, sub 6-foot-3 WR (Watkins) does. I see a massive correction happening in Carolina after the losses at WR, the OL questions, and with the secondary in tatters. Put me down for Kelvin Benjamin struggling (though he could have red zone success).

8. Cleveland Browns – Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Eastern Illinois. Story similar to Randy Moss – sick talent, problems off the field. It’s a reach now to say he’ll be a 1st rounder given his recent issues. But at 6-6, 225, great hands … stay out of trouble for 11 months and he’ll be highly coveted. Yes, I had Cleveland in the playoffs for a few hours until the Josh Gordon suspension. And no, of course a WR isn’t worth 4-5 wins.

9. Atlanta FalconsBenardrick McKinney, OLB, Mississippi St. Physical freak (6-4, 235) might be the best LB in the SEC in 2014. Passed on the draft and has two years left but it’ll be a stunner if he stays both years.

10. Houston TexansBryce Petty, QB, Baylor.
I’ve got Petty as the best QB in the senior class, but Sean Mannion of Oregon State is a close 2nd. Looking for a sleeper QB to be like Blake Bortles or Derek Carr? Check out pick 23.

11. Cleveland Browns (via Buffalo) – Noah Spence, DE, Ohio State – Borderline dominant during his sophomore year (14.5 TFL, eight sacks). Put up NFL Combine stats in high school. The defensive line group could be crazy stacked in 2015 and we haven’t even gotten to the guy everyone loves (see #16). The Bills have made major moves to the roster and seem poised for a run to the playoffs, but can EJ Manuel pull it off in year two?

12. New York Giants
Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M. The Aggies just churn out offensive line studs, it seems. Ogbuehi is 6-5, 300 and will be a 1st team All-American candidate. Yes, I have the Giants missing the playoffs again and drafting in the same spot.

13. Cincinnati BengalsShilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State. Didn’t replace Michael Johnson at DE and it’ll show. Calhoun (6-4, 257) is extremely athletic and had 14 TFL and 7.5 sacks and was 2nd team All-American. Redshirt sophomore.

14. Pittsburgh Steelers
Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford. At 6-foot-7, 315 pounds, he’s a boulder who probably cracks the Top 5 by the end of the season.

15. Tampa Bay Bucs
Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon. Bucs went all-offense in the 2014 draft and if Josh McCown plays well – I think he will – Tampa is a playoff sleeper in the NFC. They’ll need to step things up defensively in the 2015 draft.

16. San Diego Chargers
Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska. Beast (6-6, 255) had a big sophomore year (16 TFL, 9.5 sacks) and is poised to be an All-American.

17. Detroit Lions - P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State. The defensive MVP of the BCS Title game is only a rising junior and could stay in school, but going into next season, he sure looks like a potential All-American. Good size (6-foot, 195) and was a highly-touted recruit.

18. Chicago Bears – Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State. Will he turn into the shutdown corner that Dennard was? Waynes (6-1) started 14 game last year and was honorable mention All Big-10. The Bears are a difficult team to peg in 2014 because on paper, they look like a playoff team, but that division is a rough one.

19. Washington RedskinsLa’el Collins, OT, LSU. A house (6-5, 315) who played guard as a sophomore and tackle as a junior will play either position for whichever team takes him in the 1st next year.

20. San Francisco 49ersJaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State. One of the best-kept secrets in the Pac-12, he posted strong numbers last year (75 catches, 1,112 yards) and here’s what matters: 6-foot-4 and reportedly ran a 4.46 40 in high school. Can he do that at the Combine

21. Baltimore Ravens – Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia. Before you scoff, Gurley (6-1, 230, 4.4 40) is a different kind of beast. Rice’s time in Baltimore is just about over. Let’s not confuse a weak 2014 RB class with “RBs have zero value early.” Also, watch for Trent Richardson to rebound big in Indy this season.

22. St. Louis Rams - Landon Collins, S, Alabama. Yes, St. Louis is in the playoffs. They can thank the haul from the RGIII trade. If the Rams fail to make the playoffs, you can pencil in a QB in the 1st.

23. Arizona Cardinals – Jacob Coker, QB, Alabama
. You’re laughing. He’s played very little in college, but he’s already graduated from FSU. He just transferred to Alabama and should win the starting job. At 6-5, 230, he’s a big boy with a cannon.

24. Philadelphia Eagles – Vic Beasley, DE, Clemson. Surprisingly stayed in school after 13-sack season. Also, yes, the Eagles will be back in the playoffs again because Chip Kelly is a damn genius.

25. New York Jets - Trey DePriest, LB, Alabama. He’ll be the new defensive star for the Tide. If you have any doubts, roll the Auburn tape. Yup, Jets ride Vick and the defense to the playoffs. Weak in free agency, monster draft. David Harris is just about done in NY, and DePriest looks like a sideline-to-sideline star.

26. Kansas City Chiefs
Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin. Two running backs in the 1st? Have I lost my mind? If Gordon (6-1, 205) can run a sub 4.5 40, I think he’ll have a shot to crack the 1st round.

27. New Orleans SaintsArik Armstead, DL, Oregon. A 6-foot-7, 300-pound defensive lineman? He played basketball, too, so expect this great athlete to slay the Combine and be a 1st round pick.

28.
New England PatriotsDante Fowler, DE, Florida. The new “Patriots are trading the pick” is “the Patriots are taking someone from Florida.”

29. Green Bay Packers – Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa. That last name, his position and Packers just meshes together beautifully, doesn’t it?

30. Indianapolis ColtsHau’oli Kikaha, DE, Washington. Doesn’t have ideal size (6-3, 250), but production is off the charts: 15.5 TFL, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles as a sophomore.

31. Seattle Seahawks – Eric Striker, LB, Oklahoma. Three sacks and three TFL against Alabama in a bowl game and he forced a fumble. What he lacks in size (6-foot, 219 lbs) he makes up for in speed. Can play all over the place. I’ve got the Seahawks nipping the Packers in the NFC Title game and returning to the Super Bowl. But Peyton Manning wins the title and retires.

32. Denver Broncos - Devonte Fields, DE, TCU. Tremendous freshman year – 10 sacks, 18.5 TFL – when he was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, but was a non-entity last year due to injuries and suspensions. If he grows up and resumes his production on the field, he might crack the Top 15. Super Bowl rematch is weak, maybe I’ll change my mind this summer. But those defensive improvements, good golly.

i'm well aware marriotta is very good and if foles comes back to earth i expect eagles to make a huge run at him next year depending on their pick, but to have hundley over him as well? questionable.

I also heard they want to stretch it to 4 days, that would just be too much.

BOLD PREDICTION: Oregon Sts Sean Mannion is 2015s Blake Bortles aka Blaine Gabbart aka Christian Ponder aka Ryan Tannehill aka a lower raking QB who plays his way into top-QB discussion before the draft then ends up getting take waaay before anyone thought.

Danny C (NY)

wow I would be surprised if he fell this much:

How far do you think Gurley would fall in this draft due to his injury?

Mel Kiper
  (2:07 PM)

I think he goes late second, early third.

I don't, any way you can post it?

also, the Heisman wasn't hyped much this year, probably because everyone knew mariotta was going to win.  cooper and Gordon had great seasons but neither really came close to mariotta and even his season, while it was great, never really had a "Heisman moment" the media likes to pump up and never really had any drama to it (all his wins were basically blow outs and the 1 loss came early in the year) so there wasn't much debate to it.

the U part 2 was after it and I finally saw that last night.  it was good as expected, the teams in the early 2000's had a dominating 3 year run and those teams were stacked.  they also killed that nevin Shapiro dude who snitched on everyone a few years ago in that yahoo story and the guy came off as a complete fame seeking douche.

decent game last night but great playoffs overall.  as much as everyone wants more and more with an 8 team playoff, which obv would have been great) I def think this 4 team got the job done and that was to provide 3 great/good games and a clear national champ.  if these ohio state kids stay they are going to be good for a long time.  urban meyer is a top 2 college coach and unless Michigan rebounds quickly Ohio state doesn't have the competition the SEC does year to year and as as of now it looks like most of ohio states impact players are coming back.

the craziest situation that I can remember is for their QB Jones, he has a ridiculous decision to make.  on the one hand, do you declare for the NFL draft after 3 amazing games where this could be your "peak" and not give teams the ability to pick you apart during the season?  At the same time it is only 3 games, I can't remember the last big time prospect to play in less than half a season but there has never been a situation like this before either haha.  and on the other hand, if he returns I can't imagine he goes to the bench but there is some serious comp at QB there.  what happens if jones has a bad game or 2 and everyone is calling for miller or JT?  or even worse, what happens if jones gets a minor 2-3 week injury and then the backup Qb kills it and doesn't give back the job?  some serious questions are going to be answered soon.

also nick, still think mariotta over Winston in the NFL draft??

or c) transfer to a school you have a starting job. doubt that happens but don't see how you can make a decision on those 3 before camp and its too risky to enter the draft after 3 games. hes hot right now and needs to capitalize on that and it wont happen if Braxton or JT are playing, both of who were heismen candidates at one point.

youre showing a lot of love for Winston. you even compared him to luck last night. these 2 qbs will certainly be top 3 picks but im not as excited about either of them as you are Winston.

he just won the national championship and he's from Ohio, he's not transferring.  I did find this funny tho, from espn.com story:

Jones' top priority is getting his degree. But if he returns next season, there's no guarantee he'll keep the No. 1 job with Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett possibly waiting in the wings.

(from 2 years ago)

Jones posted this on twitter his freshman year at Ohio State.

"Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS."

if you look at the very 1st post on this thread, it is a 32 team 1st round prediction from MAY.  now I realize most of the players are going to be way off, look at the last 5 teams which mean this is how this website expected the season to end.  other than the broncos winning it all, this is pretty good guess at year end predictions:

But those defensive improvements, good golly.

pretty spot on. crazy they blew up the whole front office. cant see peyton coming back and honestly I can see him declining sharply if he hasn't already.

Peter King had a preseason prediction of Indy - GB super bowl so his has worked out well too.

I don't think anyone in the front office is gone, but the entire coaching staff is including both coordinators who are currently applying for new jobs as HEAD COACHES elsewhere haha.  what happened there is the real question.

as for peyton, I could see him lasting maybe another year at best, but the declined level is not the issue.  these guys who get into their late 30's/early 40's such as manning, farve/warner before him, can still play at a very high level even with a little less arm strength.  the problem these guys run into recovering from injuries and being able to play with them.  you see a guy like aaron Rodgers who tears and a calf and misses a quarter and then is able to play at close to 100% 2 weeks later, but guys like manning or farve take a few big hits and their play drops dramatically and in peytons case he can't make half the throws he needs to.  so it is fine for them in the regular season as long as they can avoid too many big hits, but as the season goes on and their bodys wear down that big hit in week 16 can end one of these guys seasons and its extremely hard to win a super bowl if your QB cant get touched at the end of the year.

good looks!  a few notes:

- so nick, still think im crazy for having Winston at 1 a few weeks ago?  please remember I was saying this DURING the rose bowl which was one of his worst games in his career and this is not bandwagon/HOT TAKE statement.  the way I saw Winston throw the ball just makes me think this dude has a big time NFL arm to go along with an NFL body and it's going to be too hard for a team looking for a QB to pass up on him.  this doesn't mean im down on mariota, I just think Winston is the better prospect.

- EARLY analysis, I would love for the eagles to get shaq Thompson.  the dude was clearly the best LB in college football the past year or 2 and the eagles haven't drafted a linebacker in the 1st round in forever.  it would be nice to add an impact player there to go along with mychael kendricks esp with demeco ryans coming off a season ender.

- I think aurburns sammie coats is gonna go up in the draft board (mel has him at 31).  every time I watched aurburn play he was a monster and he would have had much better numbers if he was in alamabas offense with blake sims as his qb as opposed to aurburns all rushing attack with nick marshall as his qb.  watch out for him

i never disagreed that Winston would go 1 (until you pulled the skip bayless card) I just don't think hes going to be as good as you do.

I want trae waynes. lots of good CB this year. im also interested in marcus peters as he is the highest rated CB but was kicked off the team at Washington for fighting with coaches and could slip. would rather have him than kevin Johnson.

Washington has the highest rated OLB, DT and CB (by talent) sheesh.

very real possibility the steelers go LB in the first for the 3rd year in a row.

umm wow...stay tuned for 3pm!

Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones appears headed toward the NFL draft after just three college starts.

Jones has confirmed on Twitter that he will make a “life changing decision at 3 p.m.

Although Jones hasn’t said what he will be announcing, players rarely schedule press conferences to announce that they’re staying in school. And on the rare occasions when players do make such announcements, the press conference usually takes place in conjunction with the school’s athletics department. But according to multiple reports, Jones’s announcement will be at the Ginn Academy, where Jones attended high school.

3rd round? I mean its possible, I haven't called my Midwest scouts yet to gather a full report (we thought he was staying 1 more year so I apologize for inconclusive analysis at this point) but with that said, you don't think its possible a team like the eagles would draft him in the 1st?  20th overall and can put him behind foles for a year or 2 and let him learn the offense.  plus its not like the eagles run an offense that takes years to learn the terminology and he seems perfect for what the eagles like to do in their version of the NFL spread.  idk man, its very early but you could def talk me into eagles getting him in the 1st and I guarantee if he does declare a lot of ppl will peg him with the eagles in early mock drafts.

i don't think you take him earlier than the 3rd. would eagles have put a 1st round request in for Terrell pryor in the supp draft? to me theyre similar. hes waaaay too much of a project to be a first round pick. the dude has played 3 games haha

he has more of an NFL body that prior did but doesn't matter, HE'S STAYING.  that's going to be a VERY interesting qb competition next spring for Ohio State.

what do you guys think about this one?

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/mock-drafts/bucky-brooks/215607

mariota falling to 18th??  while I would love to see that happen, I can't imagine any scenario where he falls this much.  early reports have eagles wanted to trade up to get him so who knows where the spot is.

for the record, I do still think mariota is a decent prospect, I just don't think he is on Winston's level.  HOWEVER, if he can be put into chip's system (or one similar like what the skins did for RG3) I think he has a chance to be great.  if there is any chance mariota falls to the 6-10 range I would absolutely LOVE if the eagles made a major trade to go up and get him.

don't like the steelers pick. gurley a first round pick with all the RB talent in this draft? would be very surprised.

this draft is actually starting to look pretty good and deep. not a bad qb class with Winston, mariota, hundley, petty, they dude from Michigan state isn't coming out?

early bold prediction: broncos take a QB in the first 3 rounds

I do like that some boards have mariotta slipping tho!  about a month ago he was a lock to go top 2 and we're starting to see some people sour on him a bit.  could the eagles make a major move??

god I hate that this is the only thing we can talk about football wise until Free agency in a few weeks.

ahh got it.

not surprised mel has eagles going corner like everyone else, but I am surprised he has the Alabama safety Collins dropping to the low 20's, I thought he was a top 10 projection?

I've also been hearing a lot of todd gurley to seattle connections which would make a ton of sense.  redshirt him for a year and let him fully recover from the acl and pay lynch for one more year and then make the switch.  makes too much sense to NOT happen IMO.  maybe even NE jumps all over that, although they will probably trade back into the 2nd round and get an extra pick for the 8th straight year.

haha, I don't see eagles trading that much for him. best case is if he falls to the 6-10 range then I could see them making a move.

saw/heard about it.  I think its pretty obvious his stomach looks bad because he has a harness wrapped around his waist. wasn't eddie lacy made fun of also before his rookie year for looking like a guard.  I think he ended up being a pretty good rookie if I remember correctly.

ahhh my favorite time of the year, draft rumors and smoke screen alerts!  is FA here?  at least that's a fun week or 2 to look forward to.

im starting to really like this Miami ohio corner quintin rollins. he played basketball for 4 years then switched to football his fifth year. in his only season in NCAA football he had 73 tackles and 7 picks. 6'1 200lbs is great size for a CB.

other guys I hope the steelers consider - trey waynes, marcus peters, bud Dupree, maxx Williams. obviously i have no clue who they will pick at this point.

I'm hearing some scouts think shaq Thompson (UW) is actually a safety as opposte to a LB and compare him to cam chancellor.  if he falls into the eagles range I would LOVE to get a guy like him, he's been one of the best linebackers in the country the past 2 years and with that speed I think he could make a good transition to safety and god knows the eagles need one.

direct quote (text) from danny yesterday:

"I can't wait to post to the forum my mock draft full first round."

"I worked from home since Friday so I wouldn't miss any action (combine)"

stay tuned.
