IT'S AUGUST, you know what that means, it's officially time to get back into the swing of things!

I know you said you added TE to flex, good start, heres a reminder of the other things I proposed.

1) Expand Keepers to 2 players.
2) Add TE to the FLEX spot.
3)Get rid of the RES spot, if you want to risk hanging onto someone injured I think you should have to sacrifice a bench spot.
4)Add a third starting WR slot, we do it in my home league and it's worked out really nice w/ 12 people. And besides more players = more points = more fun.
5)Move to ESPN, I really despise NFL.com for some reason, I think it's having to see Michael Fabiano's face all the time. Anyway I think theres more customizing available on ESPN as well.

6) If a kicker misses a FG it's -1

7)Defense scoring update, I did it in my home league this year and I feel it's much more fair;

eam Defense / Special Teams
Each Sack (SK) 1 Interception Return TD (INTTD) 6
Fumble Return TD (FRTD) 6 Kickoff Return TD (KRTD) 6
Punt Return TD (PRTD) 6 Blocked Punt or FG return for TD (BLKKRTD) 6
Blocked Punt, PAT or FG (BLKK) 2 Each Interception (INT) 2
Each Fumble Recovered (FR) 2 Each Safety (SF) 2

0 points allowed (PA0) 14 ........................1-6 points allowed (PA1) 10
7-13 points allowed (PA7) 7 ....................14-17 points allowed (PA14) 4
18-21 points allowed (PA18) 1 ...................28-34 points allowed (PA28) -4
35-45 points allowed (PA35) -6 ...................46+ points allowed (PA46) -10

Thats all that comes to mind now, but I actually feel pretty strongly about all of these.

Also, time to start working on a date commish, trust me from experience, locking the date down will be harder the closer we get.

I believe the keeper choices are as follows.

Fish:

Russel Wilson $10
Steven Jackson $18

yeah I think it's time to nail down a date.  earliest we should do it is after the 3rd preseason game to avoid any potential injuries to actual starters.  looks like the last 3rd preseason game is 8/30 so I think that should be the 1st day available we should into doing.  with nicks wedding activities starting on 9/4 and then the honey moon it looks like our best dates are gonna be from the 8/30-9/3 (Thursday).  my boy had a bachelor party and the way he was able to figure out what days made sense for everyone was on some website called doodle.com.  Anyone have experience doing that?

http://doodle.com/

if not i'll figure it out.  but do we agree that week is our best bet?

to get to josh's other points my answers in red:

1) Expand Keepers to 2 players. Does everyone like keepers?  I thought it was a good idea but I'm not sure it really added much to our league.  do you guys like it?
2) Add TE to the FLEX spot. Already did.
3)Get rid of the RES spot, if you want to risk hanging onto someone injured I think you should have to sacrifice a bench spot. Didn't we have this argument over something else which is why we added it in the first place?
4)Add a third starting WR slot, we do it in my home league and it's worked out really nice w/ 12 people. And besides more players = more points = more fun. Don't like this.  I did it in my other league and when it came down to mid season with injuries and byes people we're starting complete scrubs and it ruined a lot of games.  And then they're were some games going 250-220 and people were getting pissed the scores were so high.  We don't need a full roster in fantasy IMO.
5)Move to ESPN, I really despise NFL.com for some reason, I think it's having to see Michael Fabiano's face all the time. Anyway I think theres more customizing available on ESPN as well. I'll ask other people, but I get the feeling most don't care either way.  NFL is getting better with tracking the league from year to year with their league history and it helps with the keeper portion so I kinda like that.

6) If a kicker misses a FG it's -1.  Not a fan of guys losing points, esp because their kicker missed a FG.  A kicker in real life doesn't lose points for missing, so why should fantasy? What's more frustrating than losing a game because of your kicker?  Losing a game because your kicker LOST you points.

7)Defense scoring update, I did it in my home league this year and I feel it's much more fair; This looks fine to me, I can change it as long as everyone else doesn't care.

I knew we had discussed some of these prior, just wanted fresh eyes on them

Personally. I love keepers, if I could find enough people I'd start a full on dynasty league, jut my opinion though.

Only 2 real options for me: Hopkins at $8 and maclin at $6.  for fantasy purposes it really sucks maclin left philly, to be the #1 WR in philly and woith chips offense $6 is as good as it gets. but in KC, while still at good value, it makes me wonder if I should go with Hopkins instead who is also a #1 wr and plays for a team who will hopefully throw the ball to him more.  very tough choice for me.

joe has also been trying to trade me Jordon Matthews, which I might consider, but I will probably hold off on that since I would think he is more likely to keep blount at $2.

Gee, I wonder who i shall keep?

I doubt it would happen but if we did expand to 2 keepers it would be a very interesting decision for me.

in theory I suppose yes. In acutality probably not, it'll make the draft impossible. I don't think you can set Mouth to have $5 less and you $5 more

I was actually working on the email before I saw this post haha, will be done soon.

no, trading $ for players is too complicated. while I could make a keeper worth more than what he actually is, I cant add more points for another player making it pointless to trade.

New mike votes yes for all 3

so we're at

4-2 against 2 keepers
5-1 against -1 kickers
6-0 for defensive change

yeah I figured about hill, sucks, I wanted to go after him. nick is obv keeping bell, fricione is most likely going to keep blount or Matthews and I could see paul keeping TY again but other than that no other big names should be gone.

Russell is a decent keeper option but my thought process is he will probably go for somewhere around $10-15 where Hopkins is going to go somewhere in the 30's so its better value there.  I can get another QB who's close in production for cheap as well, but im not going to get another #1 wr for $8

probably not until a day or 2 before the draft.  with another week of preseason games it doesn't make sense to do it now and watch someone else get hurt.

just updated the defensive scoring.  the points towards the end were a little different than what josh put (I think it changed after 22 points allowed) but its close enough.  josh, if you want to double check the settings and see if I missed anything let me know.

just sent an email about the payout.  josh, your text idea was decent but a little too much esp since I don't collect payment until the end of the year and to be honest, how many people are going to care if they win 1-2 weeks and only have to pay me $50 instead of $100 because they won week 4 and 7?  just using that as an example obviously, but if you want to make the entry fee $125 I think the extra $300 should go to the regular season winner, so they at least feel like their season long work counted for something and protects them if the team has one bad game in the playoffs.

let me know what you guys think.

i really like marcus wheaton, as do the steeles, so he will be their #2. as much as i wanna say bryant hes will be a big play boom or bust guy with a high YPC and a bunch of scores.

cooks for me. hes the #1 in that offense now and the dude is straight up GOOD

matthews is too but thats more scheme than talent nana.gif

it's going to be close.  cook had some good games last year but if I remember he was pretty inconsistent.  obv being hurt at the end of the year didn't help so hopefully that doesn't hurt his progress at all. however, when your qb is drew breese someone is going to put big fantasy numbers esp with jimmy graham being gone.

I think Matthews is going to have a really good year as well.  hes been doing real well in TC and he was great the 2nd half of the season last year (although that was with sanchez who loves to throw to the slot WR).  I could see him having a huge year but I think eagles are going to spread out the ball so much its hard to tell.

So far i got everyones keepers except for Paul, Kearns, Danny and Forster....

Snap guesses:

Paul - Jonathan Stewart @ $2
Forster - Joseph Randle @ $2
Kearns - No One
Danny - No One

Also if Danny does keep Vereen (idk why he would but i digress) it'll be the 2nd year in a row he was kept, FYI

i do agree that you should be rewarded for most points for... but at the same time you should not get more then someone who makes the playoffs.

I say

850 to winner

350 to 2nd

125 to 3rd

175 to most points for

now that's interesting, I cant decide whether most points or best record should win the $.  I get both sides, but to me best record should win it because that's the point of fantasy, to have the best record.  obv with most points that is normally going to get you the best record, but I feel we shouldn't reward a team who had 2-3 monster weeks and stacked up their points as opposed to a team who was extremely good and steady for the entire year.

most points for absolutely. if you have the best record you already get a bye and are guarenteed to be top 4. having the most points doesnt even guarantee you make the playoffs.

i still think adding 8 bucks to the buy in and giving most point their money back (100) is a good way to roll this out. thats my vote.

I agree about nickerson, but with kearns for $4 on Watkins I def think he should do that.  best case scenario he has one of the best 2nd year WR for only $4, worst case he only wasted $4.

danny just texted me he's keeping shane vereen for $12 disbelief.  anytime u can hang onto a 3rd down back for 6% of your money you have to do it

of course he could, he's a 3rd down back!  I bet danny cuts him by week 5.  I don't see how anyone would have spent more than $5 on him.

joe just texted me and asked if it is recommended to keep a player at 3 times more than his auction value (danny) haha.  I guess we're all confused by that one
