Drake Inks October’s Very Own Label Deal w/ Warner Bros.

so drake has official started his own record label. this is actually a pretty huge deal. i think drake sees the young money ship sinking and is trying to get off while he still can. lil wayne has gona totally insane over the last few years and his music has really fallen off. hes starting to lose fans. same with nicki minaj. drake is creating his own label "OVO" which will still be a partner of YM for now but after he fulfills his contract with YM, or they go under entirely, he is free to sell music through his own label.

this is similar to jay-z creating roc nation a few years back when he seperated from dame dash. dame dash was really the owner behind rocafella records and jay-z (and kayne) left rocafella for def jam/roc nation. it worked our really well for them, not so much for dame dash, and they are now two of the most successful artists today.

this also means drake is free to sign his own artists. im sure hell take care of the weeknd (who hes really close with) and there are also some other names peopel really want to see him sign. obviously he cant sign artists who are alrady under contract with other labels but here are my two favorite FA's:

besides no worries those are all features and his verse is not the strongest on any of them. i do like no worries but what was the last lil wayne single before that that you liked? have you even heard 'my homies still' which was supposed to be the lead single off INAHB 2? total flop.

i get that he still gets radio play, and im sure he has millions of 16 year old fans, but you would be surprised about how real hip hop fans have soured on him. famous stations like hot97 have said they wont play his music any more (or nicki minaj for that matter). if you listen to his older stuff even up to carter 3 there is no denying that hes totally lost it. drake has fully passed him in talent, creativity, fans, sales and pretty much every measure of music. why would he want to be #2 on YM when he knows hes better than lil wayne and is making wayne all this money that could be his?

drake is the man and talented enough that hes gonna be good no matter what he does. this is obviously the next step so good for him. as for the other, y do u think wayne is falling off? i still hear him on the radio almost every other song. no worries is #1 on some radio stations and that was off the mixtape.

well he was in jail for awhile which is a big reason why he has no single out. i guess after watching some of his documentaries which he is high 95% of the day it doesnt come as a surprise that it caught up to him. i doubt drake total distances himself from wayne, im sure he will be loyal to him in the sense that wayne was the reason he got his big break, but nothing wrong with taking a step up in his career.

so what happen to nicki? now i hear a ton of her stuff n most of it is new. i just think she is really arrognat n pisses ppl off. didnt see get in a fight with like mariah carey on one of those singing shows?

Snub: Justin Bieber’s Believe and Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded were passed over for Best Pop Vocal Album. Bieber’s My World 2.0 was nominated in this category two years ago. Minaj’s Pink Friday was nominated for Best Rap Album last year. She was moved over to the pop field this year to reflect the fact that many now view her as primarily a pop artist.
