I don’t get why it takes certain players years to get into the Hall of Fame?I just don’t understand how a guy isn’t good enough his first few years of eligibility, but then all of a sudden 5 years later he is.Did Richard Dent get credit for more sacks since he retired? Is Curtis Martin or Jerome Bettis going to rush for more yards next year that will get them in?It is like in Madden when I use to do the Madden cards and activate a retired HOF player and all of a sudden he is a 98 overall when he was never higher than a 93 in previous Madden’s when he actually played.A player is either good enough to get in after he retires or he isn’t. I actually think there shouldn't be a limit to how many players get in each year. After a guy retires, they should have there 5 year waiting period and then get voting in. Some years might have 10 guys worthy, others maybe only 2. Why does this not make sense?
I really dont have a preference one way or the other but the reason the hall of fame is so great is becasuse of its exclusitivity. If 10 people were getting in each year it kind of tarnishes it for the people already in. The voting would be uneventful and where could they draw the line? The current system allows voters to select the top 5 each year with the ability to vote in another deserving candadate later on. If it was a 1 time thing and someone was turned down, say cris carter, he would never be eligable again? that puts too much emphasis on one year of voting
I mean, its a muccccch bigger honor to be voted into the football hall of fame than then baseball HOF where they allow people in as soon as they are eligable. Football also has more players than baseball so the number would just be too big.
also, the induction ceremony would be 2 days long, becuse the speechs of 5 inductees take about 3 hours, and you cant all of a sudden tell them they have a time limit if 12 people are voted in. if the system was changed that would require them to go through all players in NFL history to decide if they deserve to be in with a yes or no answer. how many people are deserving right now? 50? the 2012 HOF ceremony would be ridiculas
conclusion: you sound like roger godell. its been like this for 75 years so why mess with it?
1. There is a 5 year waiting period in baseball just like football and it is not a much bigger deal to be in football hall of fame rather than baseball at all. i no u dont like baseball but the hall of fame is a huge deal in both sports, u might even argue its bigger in baseball cuz theres more of a history in baseball.
2. im not saying put 10 players in every year, my point is there shouldnt be a limit. but that also means there doesnt have to be any some years. if one year there are 10 worthy candidates then all 10 should get in, but if another only 2 are worthy then only 2 should get in. You are right about the presentation factor, what makes the Hall special is every year 7 guys get in and they have that weekend with the hall of fame game and it is great. I also obviously agree that my option is not a perfect system at all and im not arguing that this is what will work and how it should be, but i just get frustrated when a guy doesnt get in his first 10 years of eligibilty, but all of a sudden in year 11 he is good enough? a guy who has to wait 11 years isnt good enough to get into the hall, it just seems more like that year didnt have enough great players so there including guys who were very good but not hall of fame worthy just so they can get to that number. i just duisagree with that, that is all
