josh give me some predictions for this year. here are mine:
east: rays
central: tigers
west: angels
wildcards: yanks, texas
east: nats
central: cards
west: dodgers
wild cards: giants, phillies
1 bold prediction: blue jays are going to struggle. i dont see how adding a bunch of players from a horrible marlins team is going to boost them into 1st place in the toughest division in baseball
true, i guess we'll see. they remind me of the angles last year, a lot of big moves but didnt ge tthem anywhere.
growing up in nj in the 90's i dont think i ever saw the day the yankees and red sox would be predicted as the bottom 2 teams in their own division. i still think there going to make the playoffs, they got decent pitching and enough hitting to survive these injuries. plus im sure if they are close around the trade deadline they will make a move.
I dunno for the Yankees beyond CC and Kuroda there really isn't much there... and even CC showed diminished velocity yesterday. The Skanks are in for a looooonnnggg season. Red Sox can def make it interesting though.
Roc Nation, an entertainment company founded by Shawn Carter, also known as Jay-Z, will announce on Tuesday that it is getting into the sports representation business through a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
The company, which will be known as Roc Nation Sports, has signed its first client, the New York Yankees' Robinson Cano. Cano, who has left agent Scott Boras, is in the final year of a six-year, $57 million deal with the team.
"At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field," Cano said, in a statement. "I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates."
haha yeah it was much different. we had to sit in the seats we bought (for $28 instead of 4) and everytime there was a big play it got really loud. it was weird.
awesome ballpark thou, fish you gotta make a game there
speaking of baseball stadiums, its so weird seeing yankee stadium as half empty a lot of nights. looks like they priced out the die hard fans once they switched over. its sad, yankee stadium use to have one of the best if not the bets home field advantages and now its like playing in a library
ya i remember the playoffs last year and thinking it was bad. i remeber the playoff games in college vs the red sox and it was like a football game and last year was pathetic.
Authorities in Milwaukee County arrested and cited him Tuesday morning for drunken driving. ESPN Wisconsin was the first to report that Gallardo blew a .22 blood-alcohol content, which is nearly three times the legal limit in the state.
I know you guys probably won't care, but I can't get over this. This is Yu Darvish of the Rangers pitching against Albert Pujols. What you're seeing is about 8 different pitches. They all have the same release point, but look at the varied movement among them. This is incredible
1 bold prediction: blue jays are going to struggle. i dont see how adding a bunch of players from a horrible marlins team is going to boost them into 1st place in the toughest division in baseball
that video of matt harvey was funny. whats the deal with the mets always struggling, they had a cy young winner last year and the starter in this years all star game, whats the deal?
also, i dont get much of my baseball predcitions right, but u gotta give me some props this was a good one!
Why the mets are miserable: no big league outfielders, their first baseman can't hit the ball anymore, their catcher is hitting sub 200 for the last month and half plus, their SS of the future forgot how to field his position and is currently in AAA.
Harvey is the truth though, he is electric.
Keep an eye on the Jays, second half swoon coming your way!
congrats, i know you have been dieing for this day for the past 20 years.
so now that mlb has changed their playoffs around last year to 2 wildcards with the 1 game playoff, how do people like it? i like the idea that the 3 division winners get more of an advantage, but i dont like the 1 game playoff for the wildcard teams. so you play 162 games and then it comes down to 1 game? couldnt it be a best of 5 or at least a best of 3? i just dont like how teams never play 1 game series the entire regualr season and then all of a sudden 1 game will end your season.
I'm jumping on the Pirates post season bandwagon for sure this year.
Yeah I like the extra card, but I don't like the one game playoff. That isn't baseball it's silly, they really should make it at minimum a best of 3 series.
when are baseball teams going to learn that these long term deals NEVER work out. anytime a 30 year old gets a 7 year (or longer) deal, the team always regrets it by year 3. the worst contract in history is Arods deal, and isn't pulous not too far off at this point?
Unfortuantely when your team is as ****ty as Seattle's is you have to massively over pay to get guys to come pay for you. Your mortgaging the future for a chance for today. It's an awful contract, but if they didn't offer it, they'd have nothing.
Baseball drafting takes forever. Whoever is drafted this year might not be ready to contribute to the team until 2017-2019. Sometimes you just have to buy pieces. The Mariners in particular have some things going for them, but will need more. You also have to understand its 80+ games in one stadium that they constantly need filled. By adding Cano that will add a good number of people easily. There's a lot of aspects to baseball, but it's stupid, they need a Salary Cap system, period.
pirates are doing it pretty well. made the playoffs last year for the first time in 25 years and made that stud mccutchen their star player at like 5 mill a year.
sounds like their build through the 2000-2005 draft strategy is coming around
Pirates are gonna be good for a long time, low cap figure, high end players in McCutchen/Alvarez/Cole/Marte/Walker with a few more in the minors. It's a good time to be a pirates fan.
The price for one WAR has basically been set at $6 million per season, which, as we've seen with Robinson Cano, can lead to very large numbers if a player projects well. The thing is, projections for next season have Trout down for anywhere from 8.2 to 9.7 WAR, which if you're scoring at home, is between $49.2 and 58.2 million in market value. Dan Szymborski has him down for 9.5 WAR next year, and a total of 76.1 over the next 10 years. If you apply modest 5% annual inflation to the cost of a win, he projects to be worth around $560 million over the next decade, with $400 million of that coming after he'll be eligible for free agency. Obviously, Mike Trout is not going to be paid half a billion dollars, but it looks like he's going to get closer than anyone thought.
josh break down the lester trade for me. I get why the A's did it, they get an ace pitcher without giving up a top prospect, but why did boston do this? I guess they would rather have an accomplished player for next season if they bounce back as opposed to a prospect?
set a record for how much baseball I watched this post season! I even went to game 2 of the ALCS and watched the whole thing! with that said:
Don’t u think it was dumb of baseball to schedule game 7 of the world series 1 day before lebrons 1st game back with the cavs?Baseball ruined a chance at great publicity with a really good postseason and a 7 game series which is now out the window with everything being focused on lebron tonight and going forward.
