my fantasy curse is alive and well.. i had the #2 seed in fantasy hockey and lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

thats 2 seasons of football and 1 season of hockey that I was the #1 or #2 seed and i still haven't made it to the big game :(

out of 21 games I only lost 3 and tied 2.. I was on a 2 month winning streak heading into the playoffs

back to the drawing board haha

yea thats rough. Im holding on by a thread in my $400 march madness bracket. Im in first place by 1 point and have UConn losing in the ship. The guy in second has them winning so if uconn doesnt win it all i win no matter what, if they do win ill lose by a couple points. btw, Uconn hasnt lost in over 2 months no.gif

Islanders put a spanking on the Lightning last night as well 5-1 victory with John Tavares scoring 2 goals and getting 2 assists. WATCH OUT THE ISLANDERS ARE COMIN!

Yes, I really am an Islanders fan.

That was a pretty good fight even though I had to watch someone on my team get knocked out haha. It was a good game too though. I ****in love hockey, its a shame I don't get home till like 8 now so I have to listen to it on the radio for a while.

I played fantasy hockey last year, you guys will be happy to know that I had the best record and still didn't win, placing 3rd in the playoffs.

However, It was way too much to follow, for me 1 fantasy football league is enough to be honest. As I said in the other thread I have way too much entertainment to view/listen to these days haha.

BTW props to asham for this (this is why hockey players rule btw):

"There was some argument whether Asham had done anything wrong—but afterwards the Pens’ forward confirmed that he did, in fact, taunt after the fight. He took the post-game questions and explained that his own actions after the fight were “classless,” “uncalled for,” and that he was “caught up in the moment.” The actions were classless and uncalled for, but owning the mistake after the game was a stand-up move."

i have no idea how to explain it scientifically but id assume that they ran a ton of tests as well as consulted their insurance policy when designing this thing haha.

Sid Crosby retuned last night after 10 months of being out. not only did he score 5 minutes in but he put up 4 points and almost completed the hattrick with an empty netter.

Pens havent had crosby all year and malkin returned to the line up last week. despite all that they are tied for the lead in the east. this team is gonna be scary from here on out

Well when you sign Rick Dipietro to a 15 year 60 million dollar contract, you know what your team is gonna do for a very long long time.

And that's suck.

This is 100% stolen from someone on facebook, but it doesn't make it any less true.

yaddy yadda crosby's back sid the savior blah blah not one writer mentions how the islanders have given up an average of four goals per game over their last seven ... what if his first night back is against the sharks or the bruins? ... i like to watch him play as much as the next guy but sorry, scoring four points against the isles does not add to his "lore"

dan- penguins vs capitals at 7 pm. first time crosby and malkin play vs the caps since that ******* david steckel put crosby into a coma last year at the winter classic and forced him to miss the rest of the season

so the NHL has come up with a badass conference realignment starting in 2012.

There will be 4 conferences, 2 with 8 teams, 2 with 7. Conferences will be based on nhl RIVALRIES with input from georgraphical location. 4 teams from each conference make the playoffs. 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 will play in the first round of the playoffs. winners compete for a spot in the NHL FINAL 4.

This is awesome on several levels. 1) the fact that the Pens, caps, flyers, devils and rangers are in 1 conference and play each other at least 6 times a year is great in itself. but also the fact that 4 of those teams will be battling it out for a spot in the final 4 is f'ing sweet. and thats just in 1 conference!

The only drawback that i can see is that you wont have these rivalries in the final conference championship games. meaning the caps will never play the pens for a chance to go to the stanley cup. but still with the bruins, ML, blackhawks, red wings etc still coming out of other conferneces the final 4 will be awesome.

maybe the BCS should take notes?

ya i like this idea a lot.  i like when leagues change things up a bit to make things better. a lot of good has come from changing new ideas and i think this will make every thing a lot better in hockey.  forget the bcs, the nba should take notes!

about 24/7

And for anyone with a sense of whimsy and/or a soul there was Flyers' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.

"I'm very into the universe," he explained from beneath a blond Dinner for Schmucks haircut. "Like, how is it created? Like, what is it?"

He cheerfully recounted the offseason reactions he got about signing with Philly, which included the phrases "going to hell" and "miserable market for a goalie." Later, he weighed in on international relations. "China law," he explained. "If you kill the tiger, and they find you, you're dead. It's over."

works been kinda slow latley, so ive been doing a lot of NHL research in my downtime and now i can safey call myself an expert.  i was also introudced to a few ppl who work at ESPN and even though I never named my sources,  lets just say this guy gave me a few playoff nuggets so u posers should take these picks to the bank:

EAST:

Round 1: Rangers, Bruins, Devils, Flyers (Northeast Baby!)

Round 2: Rangers, Flyers

Champs: Flyers

West Coast picks coming soon...

now that i got a good laugh let me hit you with some real knowledge:

Pittsburgh is 1st overall in goals per game this season with the Flyers a close 2nd. Well call that one a draw even though the Penguins did it without the best player in the NHL for more than half the season.

Pittsburgh is 15th overall in goal against per game while the flyers are a mere 20th. Neither is great but the absence of Kris Letang for 20 games due to concussion and the fact that Pronger is out for the entirety, the Penguins defense holds a decisive advantage. couple that with the fact that Marc Andre Fluery is statistically the 2nd best goalie in the league, and played the least number of games for any non-injured goaltender to rest him for these exact playoffs (plus the fact backup Brent Johnson just sucks). the flyers on the otherhand couldnt settle on a goalie until the the crazy mofo Ilya Bryzgalov was forced into duty by injury. defensive advantage - Penguins. Goalie advantage - Penguins by a landslide.

Now heres where the Penguins have the biggest advantage, especially when it comes to the number of penalties that will be called this series - the Power Play. Penguins ranked 5th in PP% and 3rd in PK%, while the Flyers were good on the PP (6th) they have one of the worst penalty kills in the league (17th). I see the Pens filling up the goal during the power play and the flyers struggling to match. Like I said, there will be a ton of penalties this series so this will be a HUGE factor. Odd Man Advantage - Penguins by a large margin.

The one place the Flyers have a large advantage is the enforcer role. Scott Hartnell is a beast, and easily my least favorite player in the NHL.

Now, I know what your going to say... the playoffs is a different beast. and to that I say, I AGREE. The pens have the league MVP, and his name is not Sidney Crosby. Evgeni Malkin won the art ross award (most points in a season) by 12 points. he was the playoffs MVP when the pens won the cup 3 years ago and he will be an absolute force in the playoffs. Also, Crosby missed more than half the season but has tallied 37 points in 22 games since his return. He will a scoring machine in the playoffs, but also adds defensive help with his well known back-checking.

Im not saying the pens win this series easy. it could easily come down to 7 games. but it will be the most entertaining NHL playoff series in the last 10 years. the crazy point totals, fighting, Jagrs return to pittsburgh in the playoffs and Crosbys return to glory. I cannot ****ing wait!

Pens in 6.

ok, im not going to lie, i actually didn't write the previous post, shocking i know!  i apologize for misleading you guys since i know u all expect greatness out of all my post since i am rarley wrong, but i cracked under the pressure of nicks post and didn't have enough numbers to back up my predictions, just highly placed sources who i cant name.  let me make up for it by giving an actual prediction with some stats of my own for the game i will be watching, nick lamarca vs jim tomlin:

setting: me n the soon to be former roommates go to magerks for some cheesteaks and dranks. we rarley go out on a wendsday, and almost never go out past 10pm when we do so this is going to be like playing a road game.  the game is to see who will last the longest in drinking tonight, so since the players are not use to heavy drinking on hump day, this is gonig to be one epic battle to see who can last longer!

1. SLEEP. to start, the obvious advantage is going to be the sleep each player is going to get the following day.  this is where nicks advantage lies is in both the waking up catergory and the going to bed category. nick typically does not go to bed until midnight-1230am, where motz is in bed by 930pm. motz normally wakes up between 6am-630am whereas nick (when he feels like it) even tho his alarm is set for 530am, typically gets up in the 830am range.  if this game starts getting long, expect nicks endurance and extra 2 hours of guarenteed sleep to give him the edge here. EDGE: NICK

2. WNBM. nick ranks at 33% on the WNBM (Wendsday Night Bar Meter) which is a stat for how likly he goes out on a particalr day of the week.  While Wendsday nights are not a big night for the riverside boys, nick ranks at 85% BOER during the week (black out effiecenty rating) which is a stat for how often he blacks out when he goes out drinking.  For those who don't know that is a very high % for someone who has work the next day.

now his oppenent tonight, mr. jim tomlin, ranks a little higher on WNBM meter at 45% since he actually goes to his Wendsday night kickball games and then the bar afterwords.  However, his BOER is only at 25% since he is normally home by 10pm during the week even when drinking.  if this is a close, exicting game, expect nick to take advantage of motz's low BOER with multiple rounds of shots and guilt trips such as "this might be the last time we do this."  motz will not be able to hang past 930 since he will be getting tired and nick is just getting started.  EDGE: NICK

3. X Factor.  typically nick would destroy motz on a who would last longer game on an average wendsday night, however, this is no average wendsday night.  the x factor in tonights game is motz's bday strikes at midnight!  while nicks BOER is an impressing 85%, motz has an even more impress BBER (blackout on birthday efficenty rating) of 98%!  he is currently on a 9 year win streak of blacking out on his bday dating back to when he was a 17 year old drunk driving and hitting baby strollers! motz will be determined not to lose this battle on his own bday. EDGE: MOTZ

Final Verdict:  In a close battle that surely will go down to the end, I have to give the advantage to nick here since he is use to blacking out during the week and not giving a **** about waking up the next day.  motz will give it a battle since it is his bday tonight, but look for him to give excuses such as "im am just getting over a stomach virus" or "no stop nick not another shot of jager" while nick pours on the full court trap and buys round after round.  while a typical wendsday night drinking event would end in a nick victory by 930, expect this one to be a little closer and end around 1045 in nicks favor!
