So it sounds like the U is in a lot of trouble. Much more that OSU has ever been in. Theyre saying this guy (who is in jail for 20 years for a $300 mill ponzi scheme) payed players to come to miami, incentives for making plays, bounties for injuring other teams players. on top of that he took them on yacht trips, strip and night clubs, paid prostitues to have sex with them and pretty much anything else you can think of to get a high school senior to chose a certain school.
Now Im not saying this doesnt happen elsewhere, because it does. i believe that the quicker the schools are caught, the quicker it will get resolved and they may even pay players allowances for food and books and things like that. BUT, i dont know if other schools have the resources this guy did to pay the players like he did. i mean to pay vince wilfork FIFTY THOUSAND dollars to come to miami is ridiculas. I get the trips and the clubs and the drugs and all that, but straight cash homie (especially an average americans salary) cant really be swept under the carpet.
This is by far the biggest NCAA infraction to date. I heard on the radio this morning that the maxiumum punishment (that some are pressing for) is to shut down the University of Miami athletics program. that means no more U football. I doubt it will come to that but the fact that their even disucssing that tells you how big a deal it actually is, regardless of how much you might agree or disagree. The fact that a bball player still on the team was named as receiving benefits to come to the school is def not a good start.
For the NCAA this is wayy to serious to sweep under the rug. if they came down hard on OSU they gotta increase that ten fold.
I heard today on ESPN the word "Death Penalty". NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

haha im jp, thats what theyre calling the penalty for shutting down the athletics program. that would really suck, and we could be in the middle of history in the making. SMU is the only school that has really had a punishement close to that and they were one of the biggest college football programs in the country before hand. Now theyre pretty insignificant
miami is ****ed and everyone knows it. i doubt they will shut down the program or get the death penalty cuz the TV money is too high, but they are gonna get hit hard and not be good for a while. and yes, this does happen all the time, if u big deep into every program u are going to find things like this happen at every school at some level. look at every big time school in football and they all have some kind of benefit problem, usc, ohio state, oregon, boise state, and now miami. 3 of those school, (usc, ohio, and miami) have been the biggest 3 programs in college football the past 10-15 years.
the entire system is corrupt. u really think the ncaa who makes billions of dollars but for some reason cant find a way to pay players is going to be able to fix this by penalties? theres no way. SMU received the death penalty back in the 80's for the exact same problems, booster giving benefits to players. that was 30 years ago and the same problems occur today. theres 0% chance a school is gonna b able to stop broke college players from accepting $ and benefits. the only thing that can help this issue is to start paying players

Two things.
1. SMU is the ONLY program in college history to get "The Death Penalty".
2. College athletes should be allowed to take out "student loans" in any dollar amount they want, to an extent...you get where I'm going, and re-pay them back like any other student loan. The difference is, they can use that money for whatever they so choose.

thats actually a good idea dan. they would have to cap it off at a pretty low number or else ppl would take advantage knowing they were going into the league but im sure they could work it out. you might have players taking out excess money thinking they would be drafted, then get hurt and have an extra 100k that they cant pay off but if they limited it to enough money so that they can live comfortably in college it would prolly work
