So I have been obsessed with the disappearance of malaysa flight 370 over the past couple days. This could go down as the biggest mystery and/or hijacking and/or heist of all time. There are several possibilities, all speculation at this point, as to what could have happened, and some are pretty scary especially as a DC resident. Lets start with some background info...

~12:45 am: takeoff from kaula limpur
~1 am: planes onboard computer is turned off. this is not easy to do and requires extensive training and a password to disable
~130 am: tracking system turned off. appears it was manually turned off
~2 am: last radio contact was made from the plane "all right, good night"
2:40 am: plane is picked up by military radar on the malaysian pinensula. not only was the plane hundreds of miles off course but it should be out of malaysian airspace. plane has actually circled back around
8:11 am: nearly 6 hours later the plane registers one last satellite ping thousands of miles off course. the ping is traingulated to an area that stretchs from pakistan thru asia all the way down to austrialia

now there were some other funny things that happened during this time. after losing contact but while still able to track, the plane made a zig-zag pattern. this could not be done by functioning autopilot. the plane then rose to 45,000 feet. the maximum altitude for a 777 is 41,700 feet. they then drop to 20,000 feet, unsafe for commercial flying. tracking is then lost. also, family members called passenger cell phones hours after they were scheduled to land and they ringed. This could mean nothing, but it is interesting.

now, there are tons of conspiracy theories out there. some are crazy but some make too much sense to dismiss. here are my top-5 in order of possibility.

5 - Meoter/UFO/timewarp/black hole - Ha! right. unless this is real life LOST lets stick to scientific options. (disclaimer: there was a meoter that hit russia around the time that the flight would be passing over. still, the possibility of a flying rock at 1000+mph would hit a plane flying 400+ mph is almost nill).

4 - Pilot suicide - some people have suggested that this was one or both pilots suicide attempts. its actually happened in the past more than once. the problem with this is the length of the flight, off course before it would have crashed. why turn off all devices then fly 7 hours before committing the deed?

3 - piracy - investigators have started looking into the planes cargo. could there have been something valuable worth stealing on board? there are plenty of places to take a plane to unload cargo. (ill get into radar detection and passangers in #1)

2 - plane malfunction - of course this is a possibility and was the #1 answer the first week. they have scoured the oceans and found nothing. but thats the not the only reason to doubt this was the case. the online computer and tracking devices were turned off almost 30 minutes apart. they have tons of redundant systems in place to make sure malfunctions dont cause these problems. also, why the strange flight patterns? if the autopilot was still functioning the pilot could override and a complete malfunction would kill the autopilot. 7 hours is too long to fly without equipment or power. certainly a possibilty but no better than others...

and now i come to the most terrifying scenario...

1 - plane was hijacked by al queda or another terrorist group. whether it was the airline pilots or on board hijackers the plane could have been taken, computer and tracking systems turned off so they couldnt be found (which is the case right now). they would have climbed to 45000 feet, depressurized the cabin killing all passengers instantly so there was no resistance. they then lowered and headed north toward pakistan, iran, iraq, afghanastan, etc. the airspace in those areas was admittedly barely monitored and even if it was there are maneuvers like flying below 5000 ft and tailing another airplane to avoid detection.

the plane could be in a hanger right now being gutted then loaded with nukes, missiles, chemicals, etc for a 9/11 like attack. its unclear who the target would be. DC/NY/anywhere in the USA makes sense. The russians are pissing alot of people off with their presence in the ukraine. pakastan and iran are at war. there are too many options to know. obviously america is on high alert but if these guys dissappeard this plane its not impossible for them to reappear on US soil. living less than 3 miles from the whitehouse times are a little stressful in DC.

1b - another possibility, less likely but just as scary is a cyber-hijacking. someone from the ground or even the plane may have remotely shut down tracking, overtook autopilot, and had control of the plane. the zig zagging and altitude changes were them "playing around with" the plane as a toy, or even testing out the controls for future hackings. whether the plane was landed or crashed is irrelevant as this was just a test for future highjackings. they could perform dozens of these in one day and we could see 9/11 x 10.


again, all speculation. but something is going on and the fact that the entire world is looking for this plane is alarming. it didnt just dissappear and based on what weve been told authorities are leaning towards a highjacking.

haha yeah i know. but i also know there are countries over there with nuclear weapons whos only problem is getting them long distances, not the lack of destruction (see north korea about a year ago)
