Retired New York Giants RB Tiki Barber: Eagles’ Jeremiah Trotter Used to Tickle Me Under the Pile February 5th, 2013 at 1:50 PM By Dan Benton
On Monday, retired New York Giants running back Tiki Barber joined Reddit.com for an AMA, which is also know as "ask me anything." The purpose of the collaboration, as you might have guessed, was to engage the fans and, literally, answer anything they asked. It was a bold move for Barber, who has both loyal fans who never waiver in their support of him, and fans who refuse to forgive him for what they deem "selfish behavior."
Whether you support Barber or not, the concept behind an AMA was an intriguing one. He's made some interesting and controversial choices in both his career and personal life, so opening Pandora's Box was a major selling point. Needless to say, the AMA did not disappoint, and Barber held nothing back in his answers.
As personal as some of the questions got, it was a simple inquiry about which defender he would most often try to avoid that garnered the most bizarre and interesting answer.
"Jeremiah Trotter. We played each other so much and knew each other so well that when he hit me, he hit me hard. But he'd also help me up and sometimes tickle me under the pile," Barber wrote.
Let that sink in for a moment. Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, used to tickle Tiki Barber under the pile, on the field, during actual NFL games.
Barber failed to elaborate on it any further, and didn't answer any follow-ups, so that begs the question: is tickle torture in the NFL common practice? It seems rather bizarre, especially when you consider that most players have horror stories about what goes on in the pile (case in point: Bill Romanowski purposely broke the fingers of David Meggett during a pile-up).
On the other side of things however, they do call it the "City of Brotherly Love" for a reason. But it's still strange to think that the Eagles' most fearsome linebacker would use fluttering fingers to mess with opposing players.
birdman does have the best tattoos in all of sports but i like kaps alot too. ive seend KDs before but his arent great. the Nats W is pretty popular tattoo for DC residents and he was born and raised around here. wale and even wiz khalifa actually have that same tatt.
i saw a bleacher report article of the 10 worst tattoos in all of sports. it was a fantastic read ill see if i can find it.
on another note... lets caption this bad boy up!
Ill start: "yeahhhh im just gonna go ahead and put my shirt back on..."
just saw that, i guess i can be talked into it. at 1st i wanted tio cut ties with him, he turns over the ball too much and takes too many sacks. and that doesnt take into consideration he gets hurt every year. but with that said, i am more in the "i trust the coaches" camp rather than making some stupid twitter "this is bad" opinion. obviously, chip and the front office has studyed this a lot and i am assuming chip doesnt think foles can run his offense and doesnt see anyone franchise worthy in the draft either.
its a 1 year deal so lets see what vick can do in this. i dont think he has ever ran any type of spread type offense, so if chip can give him easy reads like RG3 or wilson have maybe it will cut down on the turnover and sacks which were his main 2 negatives. vick has the talent, so lets see him work in the oregon offense with mccoy, desean jackson and his 3 injured linement coming back from injury. that scary speed. ok im talked into it! now about that defense...
ya, maybe we draft someone in the mid rounds (a la colin kapernick *fingers crossed*) but who knows for now. the vick move im sure frees up cap space and guarentees we have a decent qb to start the year who could even flourish in a new system.
so i was watching nfl network the other day and one of their "top 10 shows" was on and this episode was rivialries. now normally i think they do a pretty decent job with the rankings but i thought this episode was terrible. this was done in 2012 so they are a year or 2 remvoed but still. here is the list with my comments below:
1. Eagles-Giants
2. Steelers-Raiders
3. Jets-Patriots
4. Bengals-Browns
5. Steelers-Cowboys
6. Steelers-Ravens
7. Packers-Bears
8. Colts-Patriots
9. Eagles-Cowboys
10. 49ers-Cowboys.
- cowboys make the list 3 times yet none of the 3 feature the redskins? really? i was thinking that was going to be #1
- bengals-browns? maybe in the 60's but this hasnt been relavent since. willie mcginness who played for the browns at the end of career for 3 years said "i wasn't aware this was a rilvary." yet somehow this is above steelers-ravens
- steelers raiders and steelers cowboys both in the top 5? nick tell me how fired up u get when these 2 teams come up on the schedule.
doesnt surprise me, eagles going to a 3-4 so a lot of changes are gonna be made up front and patterson missed almost all of last year. cox taking over means they get cut a lot of the older vets and get cheaper rookies to replace them.
i wanna see what they do with nnamdi, my guess he comes back for 1 more year
nah ben restructured he didnt sign a new deal. they give the majority of the money owed thru the rest of the deal as a signing bonus which the cap hit is spread across all the remaining year on the contract equally. ben had like 5 years left on his deal they didnt add any additioanl years, but his ~25 million remaining was now a $5 mill a year cap hit instead of like 10 mill in 2010 all at once.
if they restrucuted brady it would have only lowered his cap hit a little bit because the life of his contract is much shorter. its the same as if harrison would restructure with only 2 years left. it would only cut the cap hit in half and the other half would be due next season so its essentially the same contract unless it was really front loaded this year.
all the details arent out on brady yet but if its literally what they are reporting hes only making $7 mill for the next 3 years while guys like brees make 20
"According to Hollis Thomas of WIP in Philly, Asomugha would eat lunch in his car during the 2012 season, in order to get some “me time” away from teammates."
thats funny, cuz i was thinking the exact thing when i read that! i dont really do it for "me time" tho its more like fish couldnt fall asleep til 230am again n hes tired
i am confused by this tom brady deal, well more with how every media outlet is reporting it as how great of a teammate he is, which is probably true. but how is this any different than when other guys do it? didnt big ben do this a year or 2 ago? all it is is an extension that lowers the cap # but increases the guarenteed $. u dont want to do this with say a 30 year old rb because u dont know how much longer that player will be on the team, but a franchise qb like brady this makes a ton of sense but i just dont see how this makes brady any more of a good guy than when big ben did this.
im sure brady will be making more than 7 mil. i thought i saw he was around 14 next year, which is still top 10 money when he should be making top 3 money.
nfl contracts are too hard to keep up with, even the media reporters dont know what the hell they're talking about half the time. whatever it is, im sure brady will be doing just fine, his agent wouldnt let him sign a deal where he was too under paid.
Sometimes being a Giants fan sucks, they are so secretive about everything. You never have any idea somethings gonna happen till it does. Well price you pay for being the classiest organization in the NFL I suppose.
" the main structure of the league was not up for negotiation, just the divide of revenue so contracts in the uncapped year would have to integrate into the system when it came back the following year.
The teams were told this and shown how bad contracts could do harm. The skins gave out that terrible Haynseworth contract anyways and it did cause harm to the league by destroying the ability for teams to franchise defensive linemen because of that insane 32M payday Haynseworth received.
Some would say that the terrible Haynseworth contract was punishment enough but I am sure the Texans would have at least had the option of franchising Williams last year but the tag would have cost them over 20M and it was all because of what the Skins did. So I guess I am in favor of them being punished "
i think most of the top teams are pretty secretive, pats being the prime example.
eagles dont have a reputation but they are. think of all the major new stories involving them, u dont hear a word about it until they annouce it which is why i dont look at rumors of being anything more than smoke screens from agents to the media.
here are some recent examples:
- chip kelly (everyone thought he was staying with Oregon until the minute it was annocned)
- mcnabb being traded to the skins on easter sunday a few years ago
- nnamdi (everyone thought he was going to the jets or dallas)
Teams were told not to violate the spirit of the salary cap, and the two teams did. It wasn't what they spent, it was the fact that they were spending specifically to circumvent the salary cap in forthcoming seasons and they did it to the detriment of other teams in the NFL. The Redskins and the Cowboys quite literally cost other owners players and/or millions of dollars due to how salary and franchise tag calculations are done because they tried to bypass the salary cap.
