im not sure why u still think i was talking about every single FA being signed today. we were talking about mike wallace and i said, to be exact:
- wallace will have a new team by monday for sure
- guaranteed. top $ guys almost always sign within 3 days
it is now monday and there are reports from the top news guys in the biz, peter king and adam scheffty, that wallace is gonna be signing with miami as soon as it is allowed (tuesday 4pm).
y u thought i meant every single FA is getting signed before tuesday i dont get, my point was on wallace and wallace alone. also just to be clear, i wouldnt be posting this if u didnt text me between 5-10 times over the weekend saying how wrong i was over an apparently misunderstood text.
regardless, its a meaningless topic we all knew he was gone and miami made the most sense. it seems like hes gonna get 11mil a year, think he will live up to that contract?
**** ass no. if he wasnt an 11 mill a year player with ben how the hell will he be with ryan tannehill?
i think this is funny: “Miami didn’t have much, if any, competition for a big-money deal ($11 million or more a year) for wide receiver Mike Wallace.”
ppl just dont pay WR like that and hes not worth that much. steelers have let yancy thigpen, plax buress, santonio holmes and others go just to watch them not live up to the hype. miami needs to sell tickets and needs removations for their staduim so theres other reasons they needed to make a splash in FA, but stricly on field- hes not worth 11 mill.
i kinda have to disagree with u on all steelers FA wr not living up to the hype plax burress did pretty well with the giants. however, he did make it back to the steelers last year which brings me to my next headline:
Jets receiver Santonio Holmes has $7.5 million in guaranteed salary this year. He has another $3.5 million in non-guaranteed salary.
The Jets want him to drop the non-guaranteed money. Holmes could refuse. The Jets would then likely cut him.
If, this would happen. any chance steelers go back after him?

you mean the plaxico buress that spent 2 years in prison and not on the football field while hines ward and santonio holmes were being named super bowl MVPs?
"The first-ever negotiation weekend was a pretty big dud for those who thought legalized tampering would lead to something other than the same-old stories about Team X being “interested” in Player Y, but the wait for real information is almost over."
im not longer at all confident wallace is going to the phins
"Dolphins fans? Time to get nervous.
With the Vikings shipping receiver Percy Harvin to the Seahawks the day before the launch of free agency, the Vikings could be looking to replace him via the annual veteran shopping spree. Which could mean that their reported interest in Steelers receiver Mike Wallace will become actual interest — and competition."
looks like i missed a lot in my 1 hour lunch break.
1. burress did well with the giants including helping them win a super bowl. yes the steelers replaced him just fine, it was a win-win for both teams.
2. danny dream situation of harvin and mike wallace both going to miami is down the drain. very surprised seattle gave up a 1st rounder for him, plus they're gonna have to pay him which is the reason he wanted to be traded in the 1st place. harvin seems to be a headcase, plus has a lot of headaches (get it?) so im surprised he went for 1st rounder. if he gets paid and stays healthy thats a big move for seattle. nfc west is gonna be tough next year
the book is blowing up with raven fans crying about bolden being traded. i understand the reasoning with the cap situation they are in, but its not a good move for on the field next year. dynasty is already crumbling
i will never root for another nfl team but i can acknowledge they look good on paper. besides, lets remember u jumped off the bandwagon last year in favor of the bears....
hes going to miami. maybe u missed the 100's of reports that nfl teams and agents arent allowed to say anything until 4pm today or they risk tampering penalties, but again, they are not allowed to say anything until 4pm today. that was the whole point of the "legal tampering window." if u thought i meant there would be a press conference already and all these annoucments would be made then were on different pages here. my WHOLE point from last week was that he would know by after the weekend after his agent had the entire weekend to talk to teams and his mind would be made by yesterday which i am sure it is and that will be reflected once 4pm hits and the annocument was made.
what do u think, teams are still going after him as of right now?
I love what the Philadelphia Eagles are doing overall. They haven't handcuffed themselves when it comes to your picks. It has an old-school Patriots feel during Bill Belichick's first few seasons in New England. FB/TE James Casey will be a perfect toy for Chip Kelly because of Casey's versatile skill set.
Philly also signed four defensive players -- S Patrick Chung, CB Bradley Fletcher, NT Isaac Sopoaga and LB Jason Phillips -- to moderate contracts. All four are either great position players or offer versatility. They're all underrated players whose market value was lower than what they should be able to offer the team on the field.
Just because the Eagles signed Fletcher doesn't mean their problems at cornerback are solved. They still need help there, and there's a strong chance that my pick for the Eagles in my last mock, Dee Milliner, won't be there for Philly at No. 4. By bringing in Fletcher, the Eagles have brought someone in they think can be a starter.
Let's say the Eagles have Oregon OLB Dion Jordan (Grade 95) rated higher than Milliner, then there's no temptation to take Milliner. Of course, this is all hypothetical. Or it could be any player at any position for that matter. But in moving to a 3-4 with Brandon Graham, Trent Cole, Vinny Curry and Philip Hunt, outside linebacker might be their deepest position.
It's not just about Jordan. If they don't have Milliner rated high and they don't feel they need Jordan, it could be an offensive tackle because of the injuries they've had there. Could it be Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel? It may be a defensive lineman. They brought in Sopoaga and they have Fletcher Cox, but they could still use a left defensive end. If he checks out medically, could that be Star Lotulelei or Ezekiel Ansah, who could play left defensive end in a 3-4 for a 4-3.
The Eagles opened up a lot of options for themselves on the first day of free agency.
i've been busy at work all week and keeping up with twitter its a full time job in itself. but ya i like what the eagles have done so far, signed a lot of good players to decent contracts esp casey (texans te/fb) and sopoaga (49ers dt). i even like the chung move, he was pretty good with the pats a few years ago n has talent. eagles still need to make a lot of moves at corner and saftey but i guess they are letting the market settle down and not make the same mistake they did a few years ago and over pay for a veteran in FA.
a few other notes:
- i do not like what the dolphins are doing at all, esp after seeing how the eagles fell apart after all their big FA moves just 2 years ago. they over paid for every guy including wallace but i really dont like the eleberbe and wheeler moves. both are average players being paid like pro bowlers. and this is all going on while they are letting some of their top guys like jake long and sean smith walk. does anyone remember dannys comments from 2 years ago after the eagles made their big moves? i want to see if he is a hypocrite or not now that his team is doing this.
- hate that the pats let welker go. hes only 31 and hes not a speed wr whos production is going to drop once his speed goes down. i can see him being very productive for another 3-4 years, and with manning he is going to put up huge numbersw again. maybe there is more to this story and welker wouldnt accept what the pats were offering compared to what he got from the broncos, but amendola gets hurt too much.
- obv the ravens are taking some hits, but osie has a job to do and that is to protect the long term view of the ravens. by doing that he is most likely going to costs them next season, but this is the right thing to do. u cant win long term by over paying guys like kruger or ellerbe. i expect the ravens to struggle next year mainily because they are going through the transition of old to young and losing key leaders like ray lewis, matt birk, ed reed, boldin, but i expect them to be like the giants and be in the 8-8 to 10-6 range where 1 game might cost them the playoffs next year. however, long term this is the right thing to do.
- still very interested to see where these players end up:
1. talib
2. sean smith
3. greg jennings
4. andre smith
5. nnamdi
6. ed reed
7. delmas
- still hoping the eagles get:
RT: smith or vollmer
OLB: barwin
corner: talib (doubtful) sean smith/cary williams (if the $ is right)
he costed the steelers the victory over the broncos in the 2011 playoffs where ryan clark couldnt play and didnt help on the play where d. thomas smoked ike.
yeah so much has gone on its kinda overload to discuss it all especially after the fact.
i think seattle and san fran are the obvious choices as winners of FA so far. its the arms race 2013. i also like what chicago did with bushrod and bennett and if rams can get jake long him and jared cook were good pickups. lions and titans got some good players too.
phins spent a lot of money but its not like thats a new trend. i would like to see colberts face when he found out wallace is the third highest paid WR in the league. he was prolly laughing his ass off cause the steelers would never in a million years even consider than contract. the phins needed star power and a way to sell tickets so getting the prize of each side of the ball was more than just on the field.
eagles are doing pretty well. i quickly tried to find the post where we were listing players of other teams we would like to have. gholston and sean smith were on that list. i like smith alot.
CBs are getting shiited on thou. ppl regarded them as sooo important even just a couple years ago but now they cant find a home. i guess they just think they are worth so much because its a passing league but teams disagree. still holding out hope the steelers can resign lewis but if and only if its not too much that they lose cortez allen next year, who is the much better player.
speaking of steelers, how about those moves! bruce gradkowski, plaxico burress and a reup of larry foote! Its like christmas!
i understand the ravens moves but i think they will be hurting more than you think. mostly because flaccos deal is so cheap upfront that its gonna be huge in a couple years and since it runs thru 2018 they cant really restructure or extend it for a long while. theyre not losing these players becuase they cant afford them this year, theyre losing them becuase they cant afford them in 2015 when flacco is owed 24 mill, and cant do much about it with 4 years left on the deal.
i dunno that amandola is THAT much of a downgrade for the pats this year and will be better over the length of the deal. it worked out pretty well for both teams. its telling that pats gave amandola a better deal than they offered welker thou. they are really holding that drop in the superbwo a couple years ago against him! brady must be pissed that he took less money to keep guys there but theyre still leaving.
i hope youre not expecting mundy to be a full time starter. that guy was terrible when he had to play a big role.
still a lot of really good players on the market. mostly at CB so it will be cool to see where they go.
Hah no I knew nothing about him. He'd be well behind Stevie Brown, Will Hill, and Antrel. So It'd take a string of injuries for him to see the field regularly
i could see it going either way for the ravens. i could see them really struggling with the loss of so many key players, esp reed and lewis. but i still see them as an above average team with a good offense and a very good coaching staff. plus flaaco is elite right? elite qbs dont go 6-10. im banking on them going around 8-8 or 9-7 next year.
the major thing with the corners is that there is so many of them out there that nobody wants to give one of them a huge contract that they are looking for. its smart that teams are finally doing this, and its prolly because teams like the cowboys or redskins have no cap space to give out huge deals to someone. you know if one of those 2 did talib would have a huge deal already and then other corners would fall in line. but as of now nobody is rushing to give out a big deal, and no corner is taking these 1 or 2 year deals yet. on top of that, apparently the draft is loaded with decent corners so we will see how this all plays out.
i defintily see the logic of going with amendola over welker that the pats used. he is younger and a pretty similar player. i just must be higher on welker than most and think he will be a good players for more than 2 years and wont slip. amendola gets hurt way too much and has never come close to putting up the numbers welker has proven to be able to do. i guess we'll see what amendola does now that he has brady as his qb, but i think it was a mistake to mess around with a super bowl contender like this
theres just a huuuuuge difference in a team between having to pay a franchise QB 120 mill and still making it work, and not. Ozzie newsome hasnt had a franchise QB to pay so well see what hes really made of
im joking about them being loaded, but they're actually not that bad. they made the playoffs n won the afc west 2 or 3 years ago with matt cassell as their qb and have some talent as evidence by all their pro bowlers. if alex smith plays anywhere near as well he did in san fran the past 2 years they have a chance at the wild card. andy will soldify the oline with jockell and with charles and bowe and their young te they defintily have weapons on O. and on d they got a good secondary with the new signings and eric berry, plus a good pass rush with halie and derrick johnson at mlb. lets see what andy can do
Floyd Mayweather: Replacement refs cost me $900,000 gambling
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 14, 2013, 1:20 PM EDT
AP Boxer Floyd Mayweather is known for his love of high-stakes gambling. But he didn’t love having money riding on the infamous Seahawks-Packers “Fail Mary” game that led to the end of the officials’ lockout.
In an interview on Jim Rome on Showtime, Mayweather said he gambled $900,000 on the Packers to beat the Seahawks in that game, which Seattle won on a Hail Mary on the last play — a play that most observers thought should have been ruled both offensive pass interference on the Seahawks and a game-clinching interception by the Packers, but that the replacement officials ruled a game-winning touchdown catch by Seattle’s Golden Tate.
“That was 900 grand,” Mayweather said. “I was upset.”
Great player who can't stay on the field. When he is on he's a difference maker. But in 80 games as a Giant he's only played in 56 of them. He has arthritic knees and can be on the injury report in a moments notice. For a 1 year deal it could either be great or no big deal.
ha, please dont remind me of him. might have been the worst FA signing of all of them in 2011 and i absolutly hated him.
eagles just signed 3 new secondary players plus have the 2 starting safteys returning and i still have no idea who will be starting next year at any of the 4 positions.
are you drunk? they have the tender on him now for 1.3 mill. if the pats want to give up a 3rd rounder they can offer whatever they want and the steelers would have to match or get a 3rd rounder in return.
you dont understand how RFA works? oh yea i forget the iggles only sign over priced UFAs!
