i think the QB picks will come in very slowly this year. i think the cards may have their pick of bridgewater, carr, mccarron and maybe even a wildcard of one of the top 2 bortles and manziel
qb's coming slowly? this wont be like last year. manziel is going top 5, and it wouldnt surprise me if another 1 or 2 more in the top 10.
texans (1), jags (3), browns (4) and vikings (8) all literally don't have a qb yet and raiders (5), bucs (7) are both looking to upgrade and that is just in the top 10.
with only 4 days left until the draft lets see if we can get this thing fired up again. in the past this has been one of the busiest weeks in the forum year and with me starting a new job I have been slow to the draw.
eagles reportdly looking to trade up for a WR. lots of smokescreens around this time but i think if it happens the steelers are def in play for the trade and maybe the giants. I know steelers would be happy to trade back. odell beckham could be the eagles guy, hes been mocked to the steelers a lot lately so i have done some reasearch. dude looks like a stud. see if you can find his one handed kick off catch on youtube.
if the steelers stay put the common thought is they will take either CB or WR. id be cool with either but what id really like to see is them address DE in the first then CB and WR in the second and third since this is as deep a draft at those 2 posisitons as ever. with so much talent at WR bejamin, marquese lee and allen robinson seem to be slipping. i could see a scenario especially if the steelers trade with the eagles, that they trade back up in the second for one of those guys if they get their CB in the first.
first round wish list:
1. aaron donald - DT/DE Pitt - they are calling him a high profile geno atkins. 2. Gilbert/Dennard/Fuller - these guys have been changing rankings for months now so ill leave it up to colbert and tomlin to choose the right one 3. anthony barr - slipping a little bit theres a real chance he could be there now. worilds currently on a one year tender and he could be BPA 4. evans/beckham/cooks - my #1 on this list is actually evans but i cant see him dropping to 15. i really hope the steeelers dont go WR in the first. its just not important enough with so many questions on defense. i could see cooks being a steve smith clone and being really good in the league. not sure if hes worth the 15th pick but if they trade down... could also be who iggles are looking at to replace DivaJax.
i think there will be a lot more trades this year which will make the draft as crazy as ever.
lets keep the convo going.

couldnt of said it better myself, finally draft week! i try not to read too much into the pft/twitter reports of which players are visiting which teams due to the smoke screens. there are too many examples of players who get drafted by a team who didnt even visit them (esp outside the top 10) making most of this "reports" completely meaningless.
For the eagles, I would be surprised if they traded up in the 1st. they only have 6 picks as of now so trading up would obviously hurt them in the later rounds. i think they are hoping HAHA/prior or anthony barr falls to them at 23 and they take one of them. i would be surprised if they went WR in round 1, mainly because of what you said, they're are so many other good WR's to pick from. my guess is they go Defense round 1 and then wr round 2, wouldn't surprise me if the FSU kid benjamin or marquise lee dropped to them there and that's who they pick up.
i was alittle stoned last night watching NFL network last night and came to the conclusion that manizel is going to get drafted by the jags at #3. not sure why i was so convinced of this last night, but jags have to go QB and i don't think blake is the answer. also manziel is going to help the team with marketing and selling tickets/merchandise and if any team in the NFL needs helo with that is the jags.
i think this is the most unknown draft in a looooooong time. two years ago luck was the clear cut #1 and was signed before the draft. the Rams traded all their picks to the Skins who we knew were taking RG3.
last year the QB class was weak but we knew the cheifs were either taking fisher or joekel. they were so far ahead that the jags taking whichever one was left was a no brainer. miami traded up for jordan which was a minor surprise and the eagles were in a tough spot of 4 and took lane johnson.
this year there are good players at sooo many positions that its impossible to predict. the best players are pass rushers and WRs. The OT class looks to be strong again. The QB class is impossible to figure out because they are so different. do you want the scrambler, the oak tree or the black guy who passes for an intellegent QB? or do you wait for the second teir which may be as good as the first? pick your flavor.
just so many moving parts this year. you could justify clowney/mack/watkins/evans as the first 4 off the board. but theres always added value in QBs so team may choose to take one.
it seems like each year there is clear orders to the tiers at each position. like last year it was OT 1, OT 2, Pass rusher 1, OT 3, Pass Rusher 2, Pass Rusher 3...
this year its pass rusher/WR/QB all worthy of the first 5-10 picks. people are gonna fall and people are gonna trade. no way any mock draft is even close this year.
although i would be scared of a watkins - gordon duo, i dont think another WR makes the browns a threat seeing as theyre still years away from a franchise QB so id be ok with this.
bortles to the browns would scare me the most. manziel is just too hard to predict and they need some stability so i could see them passing on him. to me their options are bortles, OT and watkins.
i think browns go best player avaiable at #4 and qb with their 2nd 1st round pick, someone like carr would make sense to me. UNLESS manziel is avaiable at 4 then they would go with him, but like i said eariler, i think the jags take him at #3.
Despite all the QB posturing, the Texans go for the once in a generation prospect and they're smart to do so. The QBs this year just aren't spectacular, and as proved by Seattle a dominate D with an adequate QB can get the job done. Smart move.
St.Louis Rams
Greg Robinson
OT
Auburn
I think they skip over Sammy Watkins here, they've draft a lot of Receivers over the past few years (Austin/Bailey/Quick/Givens) just to name a few. I think they shore up the right side of their O-Line here so Zac Stacy can keep the chains moving.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Khalil Mack
DE/OLB
Buffalo
Some draftniks are calling him a better prospect than Clowney, I don't know about all that, but the dude is indeed a beast. Gus Bradley is the former Seattle DC… you think he likes defensive players? Jags get a much needed edge rusher.
Cleveland Browns
Jake Mathews
OT
Texas A&M
CURVEBALL!!! They're not terribly happy with their current RT, and getting Mathews to play opposite Joe Thomas could create possibly the best Tackle tandem in the league.
Oakland Raiders
Sammy Watkins
WR
Clemson
They go BPA here, they'll probably trade out of this spot, but who knows. Schaub gets a weapon for the year.
Atlanta Falcons
Taylor Lewan
OT
Michigan
They're kinda pissed that both Robinson and Mathews are gone, but Lewan isn't a bad consolation prize. They need to get stronger on the offensive line, Lewan has a nasty streak that should help a lot.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Johnny Manziel
QB
Texas A&M
McCown is a stop gap right now for Lovie, and Glennon isn't his guy. They take the chance on who could either be Drew Brees 2.0 with legs or Tim Tebow 2.0… we shall see.
Minnesota Vikings
Aaron Donald
DT
Pitt
Very early possibly to some, they have Linval and Shariff you say, well Shariff aint one Zimmer's players. They say Donald is possibly Geno Atkins 2.0, who better to utilize that then Geno's old DC?
Buffalo Bills
Mike Evans
WR
Texas A&M
They want weapons to prop up EJ Manuel, I wanted the Giants to draft him really badly….
Detroit Lions
Anthony Barr
LB
UCLA
The Lions are reportedly looking for another player with the ability to russ the passer, and Barr has that ability in spades. He might be a bit of a project, but the dude can ball.
Tennessee Titans
Justin Gilbert
CB
Oklahoma St.
Losing Alterraun Verner has left the Titans with a pretty sizable hole at CB, Gilbert will be an absolute STUD. They happily take Gilbert.
New York Giants
Zack Martin
OT
Notre Dame
Versatile, can play any position on the line, just the way the Giants like him. Reese has been called out for "risky" picks in the past, they go ultra conservative and get a very solid player.
St.Louis Rams
HaHa Clinton-Dix
S
Alabama
Their safety play was abysmal last year, this guy will be an absolute stud. A good defense gets so much better.
Chicago Bears
Darqueze Dennard
CN
Michigan St.
Did you see that run defense last year? They're taking whoever the best remaining defensive player is.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Kyle Fuller
CB
Virgina Tech
They're practically screaming that they'll be taking a CB here.
Dallas Cowboys
Timmy Jernigan
DT
Florida State
My god is their defense pathetic, they need this so damn bad.
Baltimore Ravens
Calvin Pryor
S
Louisville
Can you name their other safety? Theres a reason for that… Pryor and Elam should team up to make a NASTY safety tandem for years to come.
New York Jets
Odell Beckham Jr.
WR
LSU
They added Decker, but that’s not even close to enough. They need more skill players, him and Decker should be a nice combo.
Miami Dolphins
Ja'Wuan James
OT
Tennessee
Might be considered a reach here, but they supposedly have a first round grade on him. Wouldn't surprise me to see them trade up to grab someone else.
Arizona Cardinals
Ra'Shede Hageman
DE/DT
Minnesota
They added Jared Veldheer solidifying their line, and don't forget they drafted Johnathan Cooper last year. Now they go back to defense, this guy is a physical freak. Darnell Dockett is getting old, Hageman can be a very nice replacement.
Green Bay Packers
CJ Mosley
ILB
Alabama
They need to get faster. They keep getting killed by the running QB, so they pick up Mosley to stop that. Can you name their other ILB besides AJ Hawk? And no it's not clay, he's an OLB.
Philadelphia Eagles
Dee Ford
DE/OLB
Auburn
I know what you're thinking… DeSean is gone they need a WR!!!! This draft is just jam packed with WR prsopects, so instead they find someone able to rush the passer opposite Barwin. Ford should work out nicely.
Kansas City Chiefs
Xavier Su’a-Filo
OG
UCLA
Their offensive line was DECIMATED this free agency period, they need to rebuild quickly. Su'a-Filo should be an absolute mauler in the run game , allowing JC to keep it going.
Cincinnati Bengals
Bradley Roby
CB
Ohio St.
Pacman & Terrance Newman are ageless wonders at this point, they won't last forever. Not to mention Leon Hall is coming off majory surgery.
San Diego Chargers
Louis Nix III
DT
Notre Dame
They need a CB also, but they can't pass up this Wilforkian prospect. They lost their NT to the Steelers and have a HUGE gaping hole there now.
Cleveland Browns
Derek Carr
QB
Fresno St.
They get their man.
New Orleans Saints
Kony Ealy
DE
Mizzou
Will play opposite Cam Jordan and will terrorize opposing OL's.
Carolina Panthers
Morgan Moses
OT
Virgina
You say bull****, it's gotta be a WR!! Well their O-Line situation is nearly as bad as their WR situation, they need to keep Cam up right, and this draft is so deep they can get WR's all the way through the 4th round.
New England Patriots
Jason Verrett
CB
TCU
I personally garuantee this pick will be traded, but I don't mock trades so… They go BPA
San Francisco 49ers
Brandin Cooks
WR
Oregon St.
They need more offensive weapons, some calling this dude DeSean Jackson light should slot in nicely with Vernon/Crabtree/Boldin.
Denver Broncos
Ryan Shazier
OLB
Ohio St.
I got Von Miller to the left of me and Shazier to the right, scary scary thought.
Seattle Seahawks
Joel Bitonio
OT/C/G
Nevada
WHO?!?!?! The Seahawks aren't afraid to grab their guy when they think it's worth it (Bruce Irvin) They lost their RT to the Jets and have a nice hole there. Bitonio is versatile and should slide in nicely.
RT - Pugh : Locked in and will be there for the next decade
RG - Snee : His last hurrah with absolutely no replacement in sigh
C - JD Walton : Hasn't played in nearly 2 years and is currently our #1 option at C, issue.
LG - Geoff Schwartz : Locked in for the next 5 years at LG
LT - Will Beatty: Looked like an absolute mess last year after signing a big contract. Needs to show massive improvement this year or he will most likely be cut by next off season.
Having Martin makes the future of our O-Line feel a lot safer. Reese was notorious for ignoring the O-Line for years or waiting to take players in the 5th or later and hoping to develop them. It has yet to work out. It's unsexy but it's safe, a dominating OL & DL is what won us the first Super Bowl against the Pats, I'm okay with getting back to that.
ESPN's Field Yates stated on NFL Insiders Monday that there "has been buzz in league circles" about the Eagles' interest in Johnny Manziel.
One totally unverified, dot-connection-based rumor recently had the Eagles trading up to draft Manziel, perhaps as high as the No. 1 overall pick. We obviously don't see that as likely, but Manziel would arguably be a superior fit for Chip Kelly's offense than incumbent starter Nick Foles. (Foles could interest the Texans.) It's just a pre-draft rumor -- take it with a heaping grain of salt -- but certainly notable enough to pass along.
foles was great last year dont get me wrong, but part of me still thinks kelly wants more of a running qb. kelly had manziel originally at Oregon but manziel back out of a commitment and went to A&M instead (obviously). Even though nick thinks this is a gimmick offense that only has 1 play, in reality the read option isn't very effective with foles running it. best case scenario with him is a 4 or 5 yard game, where someone like manziel could take it to the house. part of the reason foles was so good last year was because he only threw 2 picks, but how likley is that to happen again? i think foles can put up great numbers again in this offense but with a qb that is more of a running threat you are looking at an even more dangerous offense.
the question is how much can they possibly move up to get high enough to draft him? as i said eariler today, they only have 6 picks. IF, the eagles were to do this they would have to give up at least this years 1st, and either next years 1 or 2 plus maybe foles. who takes that deal? i doubt houston would, rams don't need a qb, so we get to the jags who i think is drafting him but who knows. maybe if they pass on him eagles could work a deal with the browns at 4, give them a good qb plus extra picks, thats the only way i could see this happening but thats a huge stretch.
i would do backflips if foles went to the browns. without chips gimmick offense no way foles is anywhere near as good as advertised.
to move up from 20 something to the top 5 would take a TON. probably three years first rounders plus foles. the skins moved up like 5 spots and gave up 3 firsts. why wouldnt a team in the top 5 want a bounty in return to move down 15-20?
While everyone talks about the immense athleticism of Jadeveon Clowney, let’s point this out: Mack’s 40 time at his Pro Day was 4.53 seconds. Clowney’s was 4.53 seconds. Mack vertical-jumped 40 inches, Clowney 37.5.
While everyone talks about the immense athleticism of Jadeveon Clowney, let’s point this out: Mack’s 40 time at his Pro Day was 4.53 seconds. Clowney’s was 4.53 seconds. Mack vertical-jumped 40 inches, Clowney 37.5.
damn son.
thats true and impressive but they also play 2 different positions, mack is an OLB and clowney is a DE. maybe they can convert clowney to a OLB in a 3-4 but what made his 40 time so impressive is that he is 6'6 250-260 where mack is probably 6'2 or 6'3. but hey if mack can be the next von miller he'll be a pretty damn good #1 overall pick no matter how good clowney ends up being.
i liked Pk's mock as well. wow he has 7 WR's going in round 1 and none of them included benjamin who i know the eagles like due to his size.
i like how he has bortles falling, i can def see that happening now. funny how he was the #1 overall pick not too long ago in some mocks and now PK has him barley making the 1st round.
again, i would be surprised if philly traded up for a WR esp if someone like Haha is still on the board. i think eagles can get a good wr in round 2 kinda like when djax fell to them, and get a decent player for the d which is much more of a need than offense.
ohh they're all gone. **** i have idea, hopefully one of the safties! i've been saying that since day 1. if no impact defensive player then benjamin unless eagles think they can get him in round 2.
well, if all those guys are gone i hope someone like barr or donald has slipped. if so, either one of them. if they are also gone and we cant trade out of the pick i think lewan would be my next choice then i guess brandon cooks.
my biggest fear is no QBs are taken before the steelers pick at 15. that would mean
clowney mack watkins evans robinson matthews lewan donald gilbert dennard fuller barr martin beckham
could all be gone. that leaves ebron who i really dont want. only good thing could be a team looking to move back up to take a QB. otherwise i really dont know. i guess cooks. still, that would be the worst case
1)Clowney is too lazy to get out of bed so he doesn't even make it to the draft.
2)Manziel shows up half drunk wearing a suit made of money.
3)Lewan beats the crap out of the sports analyst that is critiquing him.
4)Michael Sam hits on nearly every player and male fan in attendance.
5)Bortles shows up, but when he gets drafted only his gf is allowed on stage. Same for Mccarron.
6)Mel Kiper's head literally explodes when Bridgewater is the 1st QB taken.
option 1: draft best qb avaiable at #4 and then best wr with their 2nd 1st rounder
or
option 2: draft best player avaiable at #4 and then qb with their 2nd 1st rounder.
if i were them, i'd go qb #4 then best wr. they already tried the other approach 2 years ago with richardson and weeden and look at how well that worked? with this stragetgy (option 1) you give yourself a better chance of hitting on a franchise qb (top 5 picks have a higher success rate than end of 1st rounders) and then its much easier to hit on a good wr in the end of the 1st round, esp with the depth this draft supposely has at WR. i hope ray farmer is reading this and he can thank me later.
with the track records of second round QBs i would just wait until their 3rd pick (2nd rounder).
jk, of course. to me the QBs arent seperated by much and could all be hit or miss. i think they like carr and either him, bortles or bridgewater will be there at 21. yes it didnt work out last time but there werent as many good players at other positions, and who couldnt see weeden sucking?
if clowney, mack or watkins are available i would go BPA - QB later, and its not even close. if those are the first 3 picks then it becomes a lot harder. although I still dont see manziel as the 4th best player, since they have joe thomas QB could be the pick.
if they miss on either of those picks theyve got problems, especially the #4. with such a deep draft theres no excuse for screwing this one up.
in 2012 the browns coulda went russell wilson and then followed it up with either doug martin or alshon jeffrey!
that is the blueprint they need to follow!
they need to get a franchise qb and stop messing around with boardline guys like weeden or colt mccoy. manziel is the way to go and they can find an impact player end of the 1st. another dominant wr or a great tackle wont mean anything if their qb sucks again
or they could have taken wilson in the third round. apples to oranges. you cant fault them for missing on a guy when every team missed on him 3 times.
on another note... hahaaaaaahahahaha
Roethlisberger said during his radio show on 93.7 FM that he thinks Manziel can be successful, until the pounding takes a toll on his sub-6-foot frame.
“I was in the weight room the other day with Joey Porter, [and he was] asking me what I thought about Manziel,” Roethlisberger said, via Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I looked at Joey and said, ‘Joey, do you think if you got a good hit on him, that he would be OK? And he said, ‘No, not at all.’
Big ben loves him some blake bortles but doesnt think johnny footballs style will work at his size. like i said, i see more RG3 than anyone in manziel and we see how thats gone.
I hate none elite QB drafts. (Though this draft is still shaping up to be pretty awesome).... Too much reaching for QB's, at least last year no one reached too hard, this year though...
chris mortenson has come out from hiding in adam's shadow with a report that the browns will take manziel at #4 if hes still there.
so 1 of these 2 things are accurate
1. manziel will be taken by the 4th pick.
2. mort is no longer to be trusted with draft reports.
uh ohh....
On Tuesday, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that the Browns will not take Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel with the fourth pick in the draft.
If a report on Wednesday from John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is correct, they won’t even have to make a decision about passing on the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner. McClain reports that “word’s spreading” around media in New York for the draft that the Jaguars will select Manziel with the third pick.
Sources tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that the Browns are "enamored" with Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater.
and
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer is hearing that in a "perfect world," the Browns would want Auburn OT Greg Robinson at No. 4 and Louisville QB Teddy Bridgewater at No. 26.
Hold onto your butts, lying season is in full effect.
i was a little confused at first by some of the picks but i actually really like this. the QBs sliding down is great from a "mock" perspective but the more QBs picked early tonight the better.
4 OTs in the top 9! i think evans to the bucs is as good a lock as you will find. im down for dennard gilbert or fuller i dont care which at this point. beckham and cooks too. donald and barr will have a rough night according to mayock.
of course this wont be close to the real thing but its the best mock ive seen
its decent, ill be happy as hell if eagles get HaHa so i hope he's right on that end.
i don't understand why he thinks manziel is gonna fall to #16 and esp to dallas. even if he's avaiable there, why the hell would the cowboys pick him? they got too many other holes to be drafting a backup qb to redshirt for a year or 2. also didnt like the aaron donald slide to #24, i think he's a top 5 defensive talent in this draft and DT's always go high.
i wouldn't be surprised to see both in the top 10 and i will be shocked if manziel isn't.
lets be serious tho, this is all going to change once the rams trade out of the #2 pick haha
