whats sad about this tho is that dallas plays denver next week (L) skins have a bye and eagles play the giants so the winner of that game might be in 1st place next week!
The NFL Is beautiful in its own way, it's designed to create parity, if your team has been picking high in the 20's for a long time, your team will degrade and fall off.
The Giants have had high picks for many years because of this they've had weaker player selection, putting them int he position they're in today. (Outplaying the roster during the last superbowl run didn't hurt either)
In the end, I don't even really want Clowney. I want a franchise LT, move Beatty over to RT and stick Pugh in at RG, boom, Offensive line looks a helluva lot better already.
Also, I think it's time to let Tuck/Webster/Snee/Rolle walk.
Supposedly getting rid of just those guys will clear upwards of $30 million(!) add in an Eli resigning to lower his Cap# baby you got a team primed for another run.
Snee replaced by Pugh
Tuck replaced by Damontre Moore
Rolle will have to be replaced via FA (2013 free agents; Jairus Byrd, TJ Ward) Both would be massive upgrades.)
I think the Giants are an offseason away from getting their **** together.
what are you thinking? clowney would be an absolute monster as an OLB with the steelers. i know they have woodly and jones already but there is no way they should pass on him. unless a team comes with a monster offer (like the skins did for RG3) you take the best player and figure out the rest later on.
giants are barley alive and the only reason they are is cuz they play in the nfc east. i will admit, they do always scare me until its clear they are over but this week is a huge game. even tho the % of them making a playoff run is probably 10% they are still the giants so ill give them a little respect, hopefully eagles bury them this week. if they start 0-5 with games vs the bears, lions, packers and seattle left (plus 4 more division games) they are 100% over.
steelers are done. no they are not offically eliminated but if you cant beat the 0-3 vikings with a backup qb i dont see how you expect them to turn it around and become a playoff contender. they are pretty much going to have to finish the year 9-4 but still have these games on their schedule:
2 vs baltimore
@ NE
Detriot
Miami
@ Packers
thats 6 games they are guarneteed to be underdogs in plus 2 more vs clevland which could go either way. its the same thing that happened to the jets, they did all of these salary cap manuvors that freed up cap space a few years ago for guys like james harrison and now they're paying for it. once injuries happen like pouncy their backups arent good and they couldnt replace the stars that left either by getting too old or couldnt afford them (wallace). hey you got 2 super bowls and had a great run during that time so you cant blame them for doing what they did, but its rebuilding time and i even think tomlin is gonna be on the hot seat next year after they get rid of their current scape goat todd hailey.

no it means they're not converting in the red zone which they need to improve on. running more plays just means they're getting more first downs (yards) therefore more plays, its now time to take it to the next step and score even more points. the offense is fine and im not worried about it at all, just need the defense to step up and change some of the FG's into Td's.
to be honest im not worried about this team yet. they have a completly new coaching staff and a new d, they can only get better. yes they are 1-3 but the 3 losses came vs teams with a combined record of 10-2, lets see what happens in the next 3 weeks when they play the giants, bucs, and cowboys with a combined record of 2-10. if they eagles go 2-1 or 3-0 in those 3 they are right back in it with the nfc east race where i think 8-8 or 9-7 will take it.
this team isnt a super bowl contender this year, all i want to see is improvement and hopefully challenge/win the nfc east n ill be good for this year.
they are going to start using him more, he had a good game last week. how they are using their te's has been one of the big questions all season. they started FA by signing james casey and were bragging how they were gonna use him and celek like the pats did with hernadez n gronk, but then ertz fell to them in the 2nd and casey doesnt even play now.
as for the redzone offense, i think the bigger probelm is not the targets its the qb. guys like brady and breese are so accurate so they always score, but vick struggles when the field is shorten either with bad mistakes (forcing a ball, fumbles) or just throws it away too easily. gotta find better ways to run the ball in with mccoy or brown because vick is what he is at this point.
i looked back at some records from last year after week 4 and saw some interesting resullts. im sure u both realize the season is far from over, but some talking heads act like its a lock that seattle and denver are going to the super bowl n were far from there:
cardinals (4-0) finished 5-11
eagles (3-1) 4-12
chargers (3-1) 7-9
bears (3-1) 10-6 but missed playoffs
bills (2-2) 6-10
jets (2-2) 6-10
no team that started 1-3 (or worse) went on to make the playoffs last year but the nfc east (and even afc north) is in a rare slump season so still anything is possible. i know the skins started out something like 5-6 last year n win the division but the most hopefully sign from last year was that and the pats started out (2-2) and went to afc championship game
steelers arent out of it yet because theyre only 2 games back in the division. this past week hurt more than ever cause every other team lost and they could be only one game back. no way they grab a wild card but with 5 division games left making up 2 games isnt impossible.
regardless of what you think (fish) i will believe until we are mathmatically eliminated
coudnt disagree more. plus you say they have 6 tough games left and only need to win 2? ill take a W over bmore for sure and miami and detroit are winnable. ur still missing the point that theyre only 2 games back in a division struggling even worse than the nfc least. 8-8 could take it depending on how the division games shake out. steelers are far from done.
im obviously not expecting you to agree or trying to change your mind. my point was they can't lose more than 4 maybe 5 games the rest of the season and the 6 i put out they will be underdogs in all of them. i dont see the steelers going better than 2-4 in those 6, and that still leaves 6 more on top of that they have to sweep which im sure they won't. u cant lose winnable games like vs vikings with matt cassel and think this is a potential division winner.
Personally, I think it was too early to give up on these guys. Should have let them play out the season and if they were still struggling take your franchise LT with the 1st round pick. Keep Adams around as a backup and finally have some depth.
I hope they didn’t give up much. Browns not the future LT and he doesn’t seem to be much of an upgrade over what they’ve got. Ravens got the much better player in Monroe and didn’t give up much, I really hope the Steelers didn’t give up anything higher than a 6th. They may win a game or 2 more this year because of the move but if that moves us from #5 to #10 in the draft was it worth it?
The silver lining in all this is they’re only 2 games back in the division. I guess they are taking the LaMarca approach and not the Machusko when it comes to the amount of faith left in the 2013 season.
That second article is ridiculous and I can’t believe Florio would post such nonsense.
Great move IMO by JAX to get anything for Monroe, he stated he was not resigning there next year. They're now loaded with 10 total picks and already have a franchise LT in Joeckel. Smart move, if this team could get a real QB, a couple of improvements on D, this team might not be so bad.
Levi Brown - T - Steelers
The Cardinals have agreed to terms on a trade that will send LT Levi Brown to the Steelers.
An overrated talent that was consistently short on performance, Brown finally exits the desert seven years after the Cardinals took him fifth overall. He started 79 games, failing to ever become an even moderately effective player. So far this season, Brown has graded out 60th among 72 of PFF's qualifying tackles. That said, he's an upgrade on current Pittsburgh LT Mike Adams -- especially in the run game. The 0-4 Steelers apparently have no intention of heading into all-out rebuilding mode as Brown is signed through 2016 and owed $6 million in 2014 base salary
the birds ones were bad, hated the eagles, but some others were really good like the vikings, 49ers, and titans came to mind. i think i liked the skins one also.
The predicted line for the Week 6 game between the 4-0 Denver Broncos and the 0-4 Jacksonville Jaguars is already creating some buzz, with the estimated line favoring the Broncos by about four touchdowns. That 28-point spread (or 27-point line, depending who you listen to) looks more like a college football spread between a top 25 team in its annual cupcake game than anything the NFL has ever seen.
The surprising thing is that the point spread for a hypothetical game between the No. 1 college football team and the Broncos looks a bit like the line between the Jaguars and the Broncos.
If the Broncos played the Alabama Crimson Tide, the consensus top team in every poll and the two-time defending national champions, the spread would be set at minus-40.5 or higher, according to one oddsmaker.
“If Denver is about 27-point favorites over Jacksonville in Week 6 at Denver, we would have to set the Broncos as at least 40.5 point favorites over the Crimson Tide,” Kevin Bradley, Sports Book Manager of Bovada.lv told Yahoo Sports. “Potentially even higher, as we would assume Denver would score almost every drive while Alabama would be lucky to score 10 points."
That potential 40.5-point spread for the Broncos is a large number, but a hypothetical line between the Jaguars, the NFL's worst team, and college football's No. 1 team is a lot smaller.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the Jags don't sign him. I think they're heavily invested on driving this season into the ground and beyond. Freeman gives them a chance to win, I think they're going for the full blown season tanking.
cardinals? they just traded for palmer i dont see that happening.
hmm, vikings is a good guess. raiders are def a possibilty obviously with flynn getting benched.
josh u makie a good point on the jags going for tanking but im going with them. new coach/gm isnt going to want to go 0-16 and hes better than gabbert.
Eh they did the same thing with Keith Rivers a year or two ago. For what I assume is a 5th round choice, I like the chances. If he doesn't work out they can cut him at no cost at the end of the year. If he even finds himself back to 75% of his former self he's the best Linebacker on this roster. Good move by Reese, can't really get hurt by this move.
SMH. this is going to be the last time i get to rub it into nicks boy...
The phrase "historically bad" has become the single most overused phrase in sports. Our reliance on this phrase in 2013 has been historically bad. But you know what? The numbers say Blaine Gabbert has been HISTORICALLY BAD this season, even if it hasn't entirely been his fault. He's thrown 67 passes for just 300 yards, completing 49.3 percent of them (for 4.48 YPA), with zero touchdowns and five picks. He has been sacked 10 times. He has generated three points for Jacksonville and 14 points for Jacksonville's opponents (thanks to two pick-sixes). His QB rating (30.7) doesn't even add up to half of the Trudeau Line (63.9). He's 90 points behind Peyton Manning's QBR with an impossible 1.4 QBR — a metric that goes from 0 to 100. In other words, Blaine Gabbert could be dead and he'd be only 1.4 points worse.
fun fact: on last weeks shark tank someone introduded a smart phone breathalyzer. also could be used as a halitosis monitor and in place of diabetes finger prick.
the sharks ate it up. all 5 were included in the deal for a total of $1million. cubes bought 15% at 500k and the other 4 split the remaing 15% at 500k. biggest deal ive ever seen
the idea isnt new but someone finally put it to work and it paid off
It's kinda starting to feel like the Peyton Manning/Colts scenario.
As of now Eli has what, 4 or 5 years of high quality play left? (for all i know he's done with the way he's played this year)
This team isn't a player or two away at this point.
We need;
Starters:
1 RG
1 C
1 LG
1 RDE (Tuck is dunzo, maybe even JPP he looks like a shell of his former self.)
1 LOLB
1 MLB
1 ROLB
1 CB2
1 CB3
1 S (Antrel Rolle blows, Will Hill is the truth tho)
It's going to take a long time to get all that together.
My question becomes. If we get rid of TC, KIlldrive, and Fewell at the end of the year, will the new HC want his own QB from day one?
Is trading Eli that ridiculous of a thought?
Right now the Texans are Superbowl ready, but they don't have a QB to get them there...
At the end of the year the Giants will have a top 5 pick, i've resigned myself to that fact and I'm okay with it.
If that's happening, should they just enter a total rebuild? Sell of Eli to the highest bidder and run away with as many draft picks as possible?
Hakeem Nicks needs to be traded at this point, he won't be back next year, and I think we could get something decent for him (Carolina I'm looking at you)
Trade Eli and restart?
Keep Eli patch holes and continue onwards?
I think I'd actually like to reboot this team.
There's A LOT of very nice building pieces here.
Pugh has the makings of a great OL
Cruz is electric and signed fairly cheap for a number of years
Hankins and Anvil Joseph will make a GREAT DT tandem for years to come.
Will Hill is a playmaker of the highest variety
Prince Amukamura is growing into an elite CB
Damontre Moore could be something very special (If stubborn ol' TC would ever give him a chance)
So a good OL, CB, WR, S, and two big burly sexy DT's? That's a pretty good foundation to go forward with.
I'm probably over reacting here, but at the same time, I also love playing madden so the concept of rebuilding a team is a little easier on me than most.
its a fun idea as it would be with the steelers but i really cant see either team pulling the trigger
i respect your well thought out argument but monday morning is a little tough to put together an equally thought out response. especially after 14 straight hours of football yesterday. give me until tomm and ill post the similarities between the steelers/giants and why i cant imaging either team starting over
