Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio passes along a "rumor" that the Eagles have now set their sights on acquiring the No. 1 overall pick.
It's possible that the Eagles are floating this "rumor" in an attempt to create leverage against the Titans, showing that they can leapfrog Tennessee rather than deal with their exorbitant trade demands. It's also possible that there's some fire behind this smoke. The Buccaneers are known to be interested in acquiring a late first-round pick, and Philadelphia is willing to part with several young players to make a trade up happen. A

SO I got 8 actual picks right, in terms of positions a lot more.... NOW! Round 2!

33. Tennessee - Jake Fisher, T, Oregon (You got your QB this year and your LT in Lewan last year, now add a franchise RT and get the party started)

34.Tampa Bay - TJ Clemmings, T, PITT (With Jaemis in town, you need to keep him on his feet. They got him some nice weapons last year in ASJ and Evans, now they get a true T to keep him upright)

35.Oakland - Eric Kendricks, ILB, UCLA (I was verrrryyyyyy tempted to give them another WR here, but I think they look to the opposite side of the ball and make a up and coming defense even better)

36.Jacksonville - TJ Yeldon, RB, BAMA (We know they've been looking for a RB upgrade after hearing AP and DeMarco rumors, now they get their franchise back)

37.NY Jets - Dorial Beckham-Greene, WR, ??? (It's too tempting, learning from Bmarsh and Decker could help elevate this guy into stud status)

38.Washington - Jalen Strong, WR, ARZ St. (Garcon is getting on in years, and DJax is Djax, they need offensive weapons.)

39.Chicago - Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma (Meet the new NT of your 3-4 defense Chicago)

40.NY Giants - Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska (In the 2nd round how can you not take a chance on whats considered top 10 talent?)

41.St.Louis - Tre Jackson, G, FSU (Their offensive line is frankly, offensive, they need to get better)

42.Atlanta - Maxx Williams, TE, MINN (A nice big target for Matty Ice, they got their pass rusher, now they add weapons)

43.Cleveland - Bernard McKinney, ILB, Miss St. (They need to get better at stopping the run)

44.New Orleans - Owamagbe Odighizuwa, DE/OLB, UCLA (Their defense needs help, always)

45.Minnesota - Preston Smith, DE, Miss St (Can you name one of their pass rushers?)

46.San Francisco - Jalen Collins, CB, LSU (This defense needs pieces anywhere and everywhere, a good value)

47.Miami - Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami (They Jettisoned Phillip Wheeler when they signed Suh, a good replacement)

48.San Diego - Eddie Goldman, DT, FSU (GREAT value here, good get)

49.Kansas City - Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn (Maybe getting Alex better WR's will help?)

50.Buffalo - Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor ( Obvious)

51.Houston - Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State (They need another body across from Hopkins)

52.Philadelphia - Eric Rowe, CB/S, UTAH (Dat secondary tho)

53.Cincinnati - Carl Davis, DT, Iowa (Their run D fell apart last year)

54.Detroit - Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska ( They need someone to partner up with Joique after cutting bush)

55.Arizona - Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana (They need to take some of the load off Ellington, he's just too small)

56.Pittsburgh - Alex Carter, CB, Stanford (best remaining CB)

57.Carolina - Ali Marpet, OG, Hobart (My god do they need any and all offensive linemen)

58.Baltimore - Jay Ajayi, Boise St ( They need all the offensive playmakers they can get)

59.Denver - Garret Grayson, QB, Colorado St. (Kubiak preparing for a future without Peyton Manning)

60.Dallas - Mario Edwards Jr, DE, FSU (Especially with Hardy out, this is a big time need)

61.Indianapolis - Landon Collins, S, Bama (A true gift)

62.Green Bay - Paul Dawson, ILB, TCU (This will allow Clay to move back outside)

63.Seattle - Hroniss Grasu, C, Oregon (They sent their center to NO and never replaced him)

64.New England - Eli Harold, DE/OLB, Virgina (Pass rusher, needed, period.)

very nice, a lot of big names still available.  but before we get that far, lets talk about yesterday a little.

- everyone like their picks?  josh, u didnt even have the giants guy going in round 1, are you happy they took him at #9?

- jets got very lucky.  some people think williams was the best player in the draft and they got him at 6.  now if they could only find a qb...

- skins picking a guard at 5 was great.  probably will turn out to be a decent pick but any time a rival has a top 5 pick and they don't come away with an impact player is great in my book.  they still have rg3 and cousins as their qb's so looks like another year in the basement for them.

- love that dallas didnt get gordon or gurely.  i was real nervous one of them would somehow fall (moreso gordon) and the loss of murray wouldnt have hurt as bad, but now they have to rely on someone less talented.

- i am very happy with nelson.  eagles obviously had a hole at wr and he was the best available player at 20.  he has the same body type as maclin so hopefully he can help fill some of his production early on and eventually develop into a true #1 deep threat.  also hes a great punt returner which could help if sproles went down.

- so remember how the past 3 months, and esp in the past week, every other rumor involved the eagles offering whatever they could to get mariota?  and remember those rumors that including trading bradford and key defensive players like fletcher cox, brandon boykins and michael kendricks?  well according to chip yesterday, no player was ever offered in any trade to move up, esp not bradford, and all they did was call the titans/bucs but thats about as far as it got.  so my question is, either is chip flat out lieing to the world or are these media guys sources just so far off they shouldn't be trusted any more?  i'll save this for another post on how i really feel, but who you guys leaning towards as far as trusting?

Yes, if you notice that last draft had La'El collins in it, at the very least I would have slotted Flowers in there... I like it a lot honestly slides into RT day one and is a mauler int he run game, develops for a year our 2 and becomes our franchise LT.... a lot to like here

Could not believe they took Scherff there... how you take him over Williams is beyond me

A lot of good rb talent in the 2-3, Dallas could still come away with someone decent

Yep, not bad for the Eagles at all

Still don't believe him, rumor is he offered 2 firsts, bradford, cox and a 3rd to the Bucs for #1 but they had settled on taking Jaemis

yes, i know what the rumor is, but don't you think that sounds a little ridiculous?  a team with many holes like the bucs/titans could come away with a starting qb, a potential pro bowl defensive end plus 3 picks, and they still said no? umm maybe they liked winston/mariota that much that it didnt matter what the trade offer was or maybe i think the media is getting their sources from the wrong people.  here is my theory:

chip said he never offered any players.  lets say he isn't lying, so that means these media folk have to be getting their info from who?  my guess would be the agents, whether it be marcus mariota's agent (he floats a rumor out there to show the eagles how much it would take to his client can go to philly) or maybe its a players agent who wants a new contract but won't get it with the eagles (say mychael kendricks).  or lastly, it's from the titans leaking what it would take from them to say yes.  regardless, i dont see how its possible for this many rumors for weeks to pop up and then for chip to flat out lie and say that never happened and nobody to call him out on it.  maybe chip truly doesnt give a **** what the media says about him, which is probably true also, but you can't just flat out lie in your press conference over and over again and get away with it.

also, there is now a rumor on pft that kelly might eventually become the titans next coach.  WHEN IS THIS GOING TO STOP???

aaannd now there is this from peter king...

The Eagles, as Kelly said Thursday night in Philadelphia, never offered players as part of a package to obtain Mariota. In fact, The MMQB learned Thursday night that Kelly never offered the widely rumored packages of either three first-round picks or two first-round picks and Sam Bradford, in an attempt to obtain the second pick of the draft. I can tell you this much is true: The Titans basically scared off suitors because they continually told teams they wanted to take Mariota, and it would take a stupid offer to obtain the pick. In the end, Tennessee GM Ruston Webster and coach Ken Whisenhunt stuck to their guns.

no comments post-draft?  I guess the fun is in guessing where everyone will end up and not the actual results!  any way, overall I'm pretty happy.  filled 2 holes in WR and secondary and the top 2 picks seem to be getting a lot of praise from the experts plus chip didn't do anything stupid/crazy that media made up for ratings... umm I mean, expected him to do by trading every player/pick he could.

nick, since you haven't said anything since the draft on Thursday I assume your grade will be similar to that of your boy:

Tony (Ma)

What do you think of the steelers draft

Mel Kiper
  (1:00 PM)

Really liked it. I thought it was one of the better drafts. They hit their critical need areas. Dupree. 2 CBs, a safety late, 2 DL. They only picked one WR and one TE as the only offensive players. I gave them an A-. I thought they had one of the better drafts.

i have been OOO since thursday and never come this thing during the weekends so this morning is my first time back. ill be sure to add my thoughts as i catch up on work.

quick reaction.... love the steelers draft and hate the Ravens for different reasons. getting the nations interception leader at CB (Golson with 10) as well as the nations interception leader at any position (holliman with 14) has to be a good thing right? either way they spent 6 of their 8 picks on defense which is exactly what they needed to do.

word was that the steelers wanted maxx williams in the second but the ratbirds traded right ahead of us. well see how that one plays our over the next few years. could have lost out on a stud that would have made the steelers O even MORE dangerous, or could have been done a favor by forcing the steelers to finally take a CB early.

sooo now that the draft is over and the hype is gone, I guess there is nothing left to talk about football wise until the summer?

that is rough to think about disbelief

this is EXACTLY why I was pissed/surprised nobody drafted Collins in the 6th or 7th round and now the frigging cowboys got him.  he was never gonna sit out a year and the cowboys got a 1st round talent for nothing.  from his agent in todays MMQB article:

"Some teams express contempt for Collins’ bold move. Others call his agents to gauge their position. Are they bluffing? Six teams tell the agency they’re going to draft him on Saturday, the third day of the draft. “If you draft him, he’s going into next year’s draft,” McCartney tells them.

Was it a bluff?

“We can put it on the record now: We were never going back in the draft,” Smith says of waiting for the 2016 draft. “If someone had drafted him, we would’ve had a long, long discussion about it, but at the end of the day you can’t go back in the draft. He could get injured, gain weight, or 10 great tackles could come out. Too many risks.”

It's crap how could you not say **** it, I'll risk a 5th rounder on him, hell i bet a good majority of 5th round picks don't even make their respective teams rosters..... So ridiculous and over reactionary

forget a 5th rounder, a freaking 7th rounder why not.  I bet more than 25% of 7th rounders don't make the roster so to say it would be a waste of a pick is BS.

my feeling is after all these domestic violence arrests and aaron hernadez no team wanted to take the PR hit IF Collins were to have a role in the murder so they just stated away altogether.

did they ever end up finding out who did the murder?

Nope, only that he was declared not a suspect... **** the PR, he's a 7th rounder take the risk, if **** goes south you cut him and the PR "Storm" will be over just as quick as it began, really pisses me off that no one was smart enough to throw a draft pick out and take the risk
