id also explain how the keeper process well work...

the first round of the draft is everyones keeper pick. you have to nominate the player AT THE PRICE YOU OWE. if you **** it up and nominate him at a dollar the commish will have to bid so that the person can then bid the correct amount to keep him. if you were to keep him at $2 and **** up and bid $1, fish will be forced to bid 2 and you will in turn be forced to get him at $3 for being stupid.

make sense?

Update:  Mouth: Monte Ball for $28

Forster misread the email from a few weeks ago and now has some thinking.  I wouldn't be surprised if he went gronk tho.  Paul just informed me that he has not been reading the emails and didn't realize ours was even a keeper league so that was nice to find out.  and mikey said maybe Stafford but he wants another qb so he might pass altogether.

I also just realized my new work computer has these security settings that doesn't allow me to open up nfl.com draft room.  now I have to find out if my 7 year old computer and terrible Baltimore rowhome connection will even work for me.  this is going to be fun.

so last nights keeper portion of the draft was interesting to say the least.  I blame NFL.com, they make it impossible to do what we were trying to do pre-draft and then they don't let me play with any of the tools until literally the draft starts when I have to pause the draft and everyone starts freaking out.  what confused me was in the 1st round my screen was showing danny as erm so he was drafting alshon and then danny nominated cutler so I had no idea why they did that.  regardless, in the end luckily I was able to undo picks and in the end everyone got their player and for the right value so it all worked out and I think everyone liked the keeper portion addition to the league.  maybe 2 keepers this year, what you guys think?

also, remember year 3 is triple so here is what the chart looks like:

Fantasy  Player Year 2  Year 3

Fish Maclin $2 $6

Kearns Gerhart $4 $12

Danny Jeffrey $2 $6

Josh Vereen $4 $12

Nick Bell $6 $18

Fricione Ball $28 $84

Paul Hilton $12 $36

Nickerson Nelson $24 $72

Can I just say that keeping TY Hilton at 12 is one of the dumber moves? How you not gonna take Joique at $2?

now that the "steele vault" has opened lets finally talk players we like! nick, I think we were high on a lot of the same guys but here was my strategy going into the draft that will hopefully pay off for me:

I charted out points for each position/section of players.  I knew with our league everyone goes HAM early and almost nobody leaves anything for the bench so my goal was to get 3 "elite" players and leave basically nothing for the bench.  here was my chart:

- 7 bench players/Defense/Kicker: $9 total ($1 each)

-"3 elite players" $170 total.  I was thinking 2 of the top 7 RB's for 60 each and then a top 5 WR for 50 but after I saw some of the players go for close to 70 I knew I had to adjust a little.  My goal originally was eddie lacy (who I think is a top 2-3 fantasy back this year) and either McCoy or Charles but again, I saw that wasn't gonna be possible real early on so I had to adjust and go with foster who I had as #7 on my RB list which is definitely a risk but at 45 I couldn't pass him up based on my goals.  once I got him that left me with 57 points out of the 170 which was exactly what I got Thomas for.  if he went $1 higher I was gonna go after Julio jones.  with my keeper being maclin who i think is going to have a top 10 year, along with lacy, foster and Thomas, i think that core 4 is real solid and going to help me win some games.

- next on my chart was qb for $5 or less.  there's a lot of good value here with lower qbs such as Dalton or romo, but my goal was Wilson or rivers who both went for $5.  i think Wilson in his 3rd year is gonna put up a lot of yards and passing tds than before and with his running ability it makes him a decent fantasy qb.

- flex $14 or less.  after the "elite" guys are off the board theres a lot of decent value here.  i remember wes welker went for around this much last year so i was looking for a guy like him.  i settled for Stephen Jackson who hopefully will have somewhat of a come back year.  $12 for a starting RB and my 3rd back was something i was happy about.  if he doesn't work out i also have the Texans Hopkins who is now in his 2nd year and everyone is expecting to breakout.

- and finally i saved $2 for a te.  my goal was ertz but i knew in our league that probably wasn't going to happen but i knew i would take a hit here and I'm just hoping ken whiz helps locker like he did rivers last year and delanie walker has an ok year for me.

good stuff. i didnt quite divy up the money like you did but instead separated my guys into tiers. my philosopy (if you cant tell by now) is WR aint ****. every week last year there was a top-25 ranked WR on the ww. just too many good ones to pay top dollar for the great ones. there were 2 players whom i was getting at any cost and i made sure to get them although i paid a little too much for luck...

-one guy from tier 1:

mccoy
charles - he carried me to the promise land last year so came back to the well. it would be a tough choice between charles at 70, mccoy at 69 and AP at 63 but im cool with it and hindsight is 20/20.
AP
forte
lacy

-plus a second RB from top 2 tiers to go along with charles and bell:

LeSean McCoy
Jamaal Charles
Adrian Peterson
Matt Forte
Eddie Lacy
Marshawn Lynch
Montee Ball
Giovani Bernard
Doug Martin
Andre Ellington - honestly I wanted bernard here. but ellington was the last guy in my tier and when bernard went for 50+ i was happy with andre at 40.

-next was drafting andrew luck. obviously when guys like kaepernick go for $3 its hard to call luck for 31(?) a good buy but i wanted him in all my leagues (and i got him)

-then cordarrelle patterson. love him. think hes easily a top 10 WR this season and maybe high as top 5. i honestly believe that and have him ranked #10 on my board. i was getting him no matter what.

-this is where i started to sweat. i knew i wanted ingram and i knew i needed another WR. when cooks was still available i had to figure out a way to get him. ingram was nominated first which i won for $6 and had 9 left for cooks. luckly it was enough and i spent every last available dollar getting him. admittedly this is a risk and a weak spot but worst case scenario is im forced to start him until i can pick someone who blows up, up.

-the rest were $1 pickups. dont care about TE, def or kicker. only 12 starting TEs and DEF is interchangable by week. obviously it would be nice to have some money for bench guys but you can only start 9. i actually had a hard time picking my bench because when ppl started leaving it would come back to me every pick and i would only have 15 secs to choose someone. oh well, a lotta upside on the bench.

couple other notes/tips: i didnt bid on a single guy i didnt want. not a big deal or surprise but i think i literally bid on 10 players all night. after foster and AJ last season i wanted young players with no injury concerns. wont matter since its not a dynasy league but most of my team has been in the league less than 4 years. i like lacy alot. orginal plan was to go hard at him and i did by getting into a bidding war with you. im glad he was nominated before charles and forte because if he was the last tier 1 RB left it could have gotten ugly.

havent had a chance to look at the rosters yet but i remember liking erms team and danny had like 3 of the top 7 WRs. well see how my philosphy plays out against his.

QB:
I refuse to spend money on the position, just too damn deep.... and getting both Rivers and Romo for a combined $12? Yes please.

RBs:

I decided one of Lacy, LeSean, Jamaal, Marshawn, Forte was an absolute must. Stuck to that and think I got exceptional value compared to the rest.

WRs:

Would of liked one of the top tier guys but only for somewhere around 40, otherwise it's just too deep to throw my money that way. Randal Cobb and Colston for a combined $45 is fine by me.

TE:
I can't bring myself to spend money on the position. I think Olsen at $2 is an absolute steal.

agree with almost all what you said.  i had luck last year and obviously like him, but i disagree with how much you paid to get for him when you mentioned kaep went for $3, Wilson/rivers $5, rg3 $4, just better value there for what i think is gonna be similar production.  i too went hard at the top RB's and focused more on getting 1 big WR (you know Julio, marhsall, dez, Thomas, aj, calvin, are gonna have a big years unless a freak injury) and then get my others ones at a lower value.

- i also love patterson but knew i couldn't afford him.  he was in my 2nd tier of wr which included eman sanders and keenan allen of players who could have huge years.  i actually had the chance to draft 2 of the 3 in my other league but went with allen and sanders due to their qbs, but it was the hardest decision i had to make.

- def agree about the RB bidding wars, but they were pretty fun haha.  i could tell you wanted lacy but i had to have him and i knew you were gonna win Charles so i had to let you win that one which was tough for me but i wasn't gonna get a WR if i kept going with you.  its funny that i think matt forte was actually the most paid for guy in our league at over $70.

- I'm the same way as you as for bidding players up.  both mikey and nickerson texted me during the draft that they F'ed up doing that and were pissed.  i just don't see the point in that strategy, the risk/reward is so minimal.  you risk spending money on a guy you don't want (mikey with djac) and the reward is what, you got a guy to spend an extra $2?

- i should have nominated josh Gordon much later in the draft.  i didn't really want him but thought if I did it early in the draft he would have went in the $10-15 range which is still good value for him as a keeper next year but at $3 that's an absolute steal.  forster could keep him next year for $6, and year 3 for $18.

- josh, don't get too exicted but I've already heard from 4 people looking to make trades and week 1 hasn't even started yet haha.  mikey wants to get rid of djac and asked me for all the redskins fans #'s haha, fricione was trying to trade me ertz, danny is looking to trade for tom brady with paul, and paul is looking to get trade Stafford or brady.

- speaking of paul, he made the big mistake of drafting 2 top qbs and thinking he is going to get good value back.  i understand he got brady pretty cheap ($10) but its so hard to trade qb's and nobody gives up much for them.

josh, i think we had similar mindsets as well.  go super cheap at TE/QB, must get a stud rb or 2 and get good value at WR.  this is year 3 of the auction, it's kinda scary we all have very similar strategy's.

Snap Judgements:

Fish:
Russ Wilson, Eddie Lacy, and DThomas is a very nice core to start with. Foster could either make or break your season I Personally wouldn't go near him. The rest of your team has major question marks, should be interesting.

Nick:
Great RB corps no question there. Luck is a slam dunk. WRs I personally think are a bit shaky, but I could easily be wrong about that. TE should be a easy 4-8 points a week, which is all you can really ask for. A lot of lottery tickets on that bench.

Me:
I know I'm biased but I'm exceptionally happy with how my team turned out.

Rivers and Romo are a solid pair to have, very happy.

A RB corps of Marshawn, Martin, Vereen, Fjax, Woodhead, and Andre Williams is just so deep and almost any of those guys could easily slot in to start.

WRs of Cobb, Colston, Tate (who is going to be a MONSTER this year), and Kelvin (KEEPER!!!!) is pretty great if I can toot my own horn.

Olsen is a rocksteady TE period.

Deep solid bench, high quality starters, looking' good and feeling good.

Forster:

A very nicely rounded team, no real holes. Bench is weak, but if thats my biggest complaint he's ahead of the game.

Danny:

Wow he's really banking on the Bengals huh? Julius/Calvin/AJ/Alshon should keep him in it most weeks. But I'm not a Gio believer and SHONN GREEN IS HIS RB2. Not to mention Andy Dalton is Dr Jekyl & MR.Hyde depending upon the week. This will be an interesting team to follow...

Kearns:

Another solidly built team, I think Wallace is primed for a big season.

Nickerson:

A lot of risk here, he needs at least 2 of Knowshon, CJ Spiller, Lamar, and Sankey to pan out. West was a lottery ticket for next year, he's a redshirt freshman at this point basically. If he doesn't get production there his team is going to crash and burn really hard.

Mikey:

God I hate this team. Aside from Peyton, Graham  and Keenan I don't see a single other thing on this team that I like (and no, Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing to Andre Johnson does not instill confidence in me). That RB corps is just disgustingly bad, Ugh, it's going to be a very long season for Mikey.

Paul:

Theres not too much to love here. Stafford is a great QB and is in for a monster year for sure. The RBs are meh and uninspiring. Dez should be awesome and Larry is consistent. Another poopy season in store for Paul me thinks.

Mouth:

A solid bench and all around solid starting line up, if everything goes as planned he's a shoo in for the playoffs.

New Mike:

Nothing flashy here, but an all around solid group. Joique and Gore while not rockstars should easily provide solid value as RBs. Aaron Rodgers speaks for himself, and thats a pretty Sweet WR corps.

Erm:

WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR TACO? A very impressively built team Forte AND McCOY? Garcon and Harvin I'm not super high on, but both could be absolute STUDS if it plays out right. Witten is old reliable at TE and Cutler is in for a monster year. I can't believe I'm saying it but Erm got his **** together.

I learned the hard way about drafting 2 high end QBs with the intent to trade one, they wind up sitting on your bench all year and you eventually sell one for peanuts.

I refuse to price enforce, not my job, I bid on who I want and thats it. Someone else can be the hero there.

For the MOMENT I'm pretty set with my team, Though that deep bench of mine will be very enticing to trade as the season goes on.

if there was one guy i could have reasonably gotten but didnt its eman sanders. the stars aligned for that dude this year.

i dont disagree about getting QBs for cheap. i had romo and kaep last year and didnt miss a beat. im not as big on dangeRuss or rivers as you guys but i could have def gone for someone like newton at 8 or brady at 10. im hugeee on cutler and it was hard to be honest with erm when he asked me who to keep. my team would look much different if cutler was available.

i had similar thoughts on gordon but was never gonna nominate him until all bids were $1. figured if everyone forgot about him great, if not oh well.

josh has tons of depth... and you know what depth is good for.

i bet he plays but doesn't surprise me at all that he's hurting, its not a good sign for a qb to have broken ribs.  danny acted like it was no big deal (surprise!) but while a qb can some protect them with heavier rib pads it still hurts like hell to throw the ball.  i remember mcnabb hurt his a few years ago and was out a few weeks and same with vick a year or 2 later.  its not an easy injury to deal with for a qb

What a night!

As I said to Nick last night, the reports of Marshawn's demise were premature.

Seahwaks looking absolutely filthy, uh-oh!

Lacy concussed, Uh-Oh times 2!

$9 well spent on Hauschka!

not a great start to my claim of eddy lacy being my #2 prospect behind only McCoy.  34 rushing and getting knocked out for the game.  the biggest disapoitment was them being inside the 5 twice and the 1st time they did a FB dive to Kuhn (teams still have Full backs??) and the 2nd they were in shotgun the whole time so not a great start.  luckily this is a long week so hopefully lacy gets cleared before week 2 and this has to be his worst possible matchup @seattle on opening night prime time when they not only never lose, but they normally kill teams.

the good news is Russell Wilson looked great, throwing for almost 200 yards with 2 tds isn't exactly peyton manning #'s but hey i'll take it for what I paid for him.  scored more than aaron Rodgers did.

hell yeah beastmode aint going no where.

i wouldnt worry about lacy. he actaully looked pretty beastly when he had the ball he was just swarmed right away at the LOS. concussions are better than a knee or foot (cough ellington) so he will most likely be back next week.

whos gonna beat seattle thou? if the pack can only put up 16 including a muffed punt starting a drive in sea territory i dont see many teams putting up much more. dont get why sherman and thomas are on punt returns (especially sherman). thomas made 2 bad plays and sherman caused one of them. shermans gonna get bored this year if no ones gonna throw to his side of the field.

The only possible losses I see the Seahawks having will be in division. They always seem to drop 1 to the Rams, 1 to the 49ers is a possibility, as well as 1 to the Cards (it happened last year) So I'd say this season at WORST is 13-3

Sherman being back on punt return is fine, a lot of starting corners are on it to jam the gunners, but they need to get rid of earl Thomas back there.  not only did he make at least 2 bad decisions by not fair catching, you also cant risk your best defensive player on punt return.

seattle did look great last night, but it is a long year and injuries happen.  they always look good at home and esp in prime time, but lets remember the home team in these opening night games almost always win, however they're clearly the favorites in the NFC.

UPDATE 12:45 p.m. ET: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Ellington’s condition needs “rest” but the tailback is “hopeful” he’ll be ready for the regular season opener vs. San Diego on Monday night.

UPDATE 12:48 p.m. ET: Fox’s Jay Glazer reports Ellington has a “muscle” injury in the foot and that the MRI results are not in yet.

sounds encouraging

disappointed that I lost but still think I have a decent team.  my 3 highest paid players, d.thomas, foster and lacy all had 10 or less points which probably wont happen again.

seeing maclin have a nice start to the year is refreshing to my haters *cough* nick *cough*

might be time to move Hopkins into the starting lineup over Stephen Jackson but I like that he got 12 carries and will probably get the goal line carries as well

Yeah I'm in the same boat. IF not for the Rams totally crapping the bed, Doug Martin injury, and Romo's pick fest I would have won. I am super stoked about my team still and have veryt high expectations on the year.

ahh picking up right where i left off, first place.

leveon. bell. whos lookin like they got the better end of that predraft trade now? 209 yards plus a touch with another called back cause of holding? dudes patience is unbelievable he looked like charles out there. bradin cooks lookin like a monster in that offense. dude is fast as hell and even got a carry. another pass was thrown to him in the endzone but the defender made a nice pick. ingram with a nice stat line too. patterson with 102 RUSHING YARDS? and did anyone even bid on moreno? got him off the ww sunday morning for $7 after joe dropped him. hes only the #3 leading RB after week 1. now danny trying to trade me for him... moreno for kkkoper? no thanks. then he started talking about alshon. hmmmmmm

jamaal charles with the low score on the team? dude better start pullin his weight or hes gonna be outta here, im 5 RB deep.

maclin didnt do **** until he had one huge play. didnt he finish with like 95 yards and the one play was a 70 yard td with busted coverage? wouldnt bank on that every week.

most of what i said is true but def taking it with a grain of salt. week 1 is good to see ur players do well but fantasy is much more than week 1. i wouldnt worry about any of the top guys, JC included, they will all bouce back next week. i wouldnt feel too good about romo thou they looked pathetic in all aspects. first overall pick anyone?

i dont see any of us 3 missing the playoffs.

nice little dig on maclin, but I'm missing your point. take out pattersons 80 yard td run and how many rushing yards does he end up with? big time players make big plays and that's what happens in the eagles offense, somebodys eventually going to score on a long play.  foles actually missed him in the 1st half a few times but were not gonna mention the 1st half of that game anymore.

also, 34 points in the 2nd half?? looks like teams figured them out after all the offseason tape sessions!

steelers were the opposite. 27-3 lead at halftime i was feeling great. but were not gonna mention the 24-3 second half drubbing.

Yeah this is why I grabbed Rivers late, unfortunately the Chargers play the Seahawks next week so Romo gets another week.

After the Martin injury loving my depth, Move Vereen into RB2. Have the choice of Big Bad Kelvin, Fjax, Woodhead, maybe even Golden Tate if he blows up tonight. Feeling good still.

It always blows my mind how the 2nd half is basically a totally different game. 9/10 if one team is dominating the first half, the other team will come out and at the very least make it interesting

i.e.: Eagles/Jags, Browns/Steelers, Colts/Broncos.

If the Panthers o-line can hold up, there isn't much that team can't do. Cotch, Olsen, and Benjamin is a very very solid receiving corps. Once again rumors of their demise were premature.

its still very early to be calling the panthers a good team, maybe the bucs just aren't that good, or maybe they match up well with their divisional foe.  however, it does look like the skins and cowboys are gonna be terrible this year which is great news to everyone on this forum. not only does dallas have a bad defense but romo looked bad as well and he's supposed to be the one carrying them to 8-8.

and the skins, what can we say about them that hasn't been said before?  only thing we are waiting for now is when the cousins/rgDiva drama begins.

also, the chiefs, SMH.  they not only looked bad but now their injured losing derrick Johnson for the year.  after last year it is back to reality for them.

Yeah I foresaw the Chiefs crashing hard this year. And I wanted absolutely nothing to do with any Redskins player whatsoever. I honestly think Romo will get his **** together and they'll have one of the top offenses in the NFL... it's that D that will set them back.

You don't just magically forget how to pass the ball. I think it's rust and Romo will be fine.

Early lineup questions in my other league.

Kaep @ Chicago or Brady @ Minnesota

5 of the 6... 1 has to be a RB and 3 have to be WR's: Brandin Cooks @ CLE, Kelvin Benjamin @DET , Marques Colston @ CLE, Emmanuel Sanders @ KC, Andre Ellington @ NYG, Mark Ingram @ CLE

As of now I'm going with Ingram, Colston, Sanders, Benjamin, Cooks.

too many Saints wow.
