a big reason why the NFL seems to be having a rough year:
Monday night's game in Denver was the NFL's 11th primetime game (of 22) to be decided by at least 14 points, per ESPN Stats & Information. Context: In 2015, there were 11 games decided by at least 14 points all season. There have been a lot of opinions thrown around about the NFL's TV ratings slide, but this represents some actual data to help explain it: Demonstrably less competitive games in the most high-profile broadcast slots
I've watched a portion of a lot of them, but other than eagles/bears I don't think I've watched a full prime time game this season. I think I've said it before but I am almost tired of football by the time they come on. with the crappy Thursday night game, then ALL day sunday I just cant pull myself together to watch another late night game when it's normally been a bad game.
with that said, EAGLES/COWBOYS SNF this week! I think its funny with the nfl having a rating issues for the first time in forever they finally get a huge game that should attract a ton of people and get a good rating but guess what they might be going up against? game 5 of the world series with the cubs being home. imagine if the cubs go up 3-1 and have the chance to end a 100+ year world series drought at home and this is what the NFL has to go against haha.
Don't get it, they're consistently called the classiest organization in the NFL,then they pull this nonsense. Never should have been re-signed in the first place. Disgusting.
its weird the josh brown thing isnt even making an imact on me. maybe it goes back to not watching as much football this year like you guys mentioned, or maybe im just not surprised about it but its a pretty terrible story that i feel like a lot of fans are just numb to.
i cant believe goodell reduced the required 6 game ban down to 1 at first. man this sport is a mess right now.
ha, as an eagles fan this season has been great and extremely frustrating. we got our franchise qb and that was goal #1 and this season was supposed to be a rebuild so that's a positive. but the d is playoff ready now so its fun to cheer for a team with a chance at the playoffs and at least it's not like last year where every other game was a blow out and depressing to watch, but to see this team lose the way they are might be worse. take a 10 point lead in the 4th and blow it vs the first place team and your rival is as bad as it gets. so many bad mistakes that if one of these major things don't happen the eagles win:
- a fake 30 yard punt run that ended up getting the cowboys a fg
- a fumble in the 4th quarter that stops the clock from running and gives dallas another FG
- losing 6 yards on a SCREEN PASS on 3rd down and making a 48 yarder a 54 yard attempt which for some reason doug then decided to punt!!! another potential 3 points off the board and then guess what, dallas ended up scoring a td anyway!
2 of the eagles 3 losses have been 4th quarter blown leads and I'm sure will come back to haunt them end of the year. with that said, its giants week and it can all be made up with a win on sunday. josh, thoughts on the game?
Which college QB goes first this year? People were touting Notre Dames Deshon Kizer as the hands down #1 this year, but he's already been benched. Is Deshaun Watson for real or just another college QB that wont make it in the NFL? How about that dude from Washington? I feel like there a ridiculous amount of good QB prospects this year.
haha way too early for me to start thinking draft but at least I don't have to worry about the eagles needing to go after a qb next season! at this point, all I know is the eagles need some PLAY MAKERS. I'm pretty sure this is a deep RB class which is great, I would love for the chance at leonard fournette but after seeing how zeke Elliott is killing it this season drafting a rb in the top 5 isn't as crazy as it was a few years ago and this guy has top 5 talent. if I had to rank the positions the eagles need it would look like this:
1. RB (they probably wont go after this #1 but when 5'6 Darren sporles is your featured back that is a problem)
2. OT. Peters getting old and lane Johnson is 1 dumb decision away from being done.
3. Corner. they've been better than most people thought heading into this year but after watching mckelvin get torched by the giants they can def upgrade here.
4. WR. They have a lot of high picks at this spot but none of them are elite (Matthews was a 2nd rounder, agulor a 1st, DGB a 2nd with the titans and josh huff was a 3rd who was cut), not sure how strong of a class this is but if a good one falls in the middle of the 1st I wouldn't mind giving another one a shot.
best WR is Mike Williams from Clemson who is supposedly a Sammy Watkins/DeAndre Hopkins clone, slim to none chance he falls to the eagles without any type of trade up. Wait do they have a first round pick after the Wentz trade?
Vikings pick for the Bradford trade! at first it was looking like a late 20's pick when they went 5-0 but now they are starting to fall off and I could see them missing the playoffs and hopefully be in the 15ish range.

i was listening to espn radio yesterday and todd mcshay said this might be the worst qb class in years. I remember when the eagles traded for wentz last year one of the reasons Howie said was because the upcoming qb classes didn't look as strong so that was the first sign this 2017 class was not going to be good. getting back to mchsay, he said while Watson is a great college qb he doesn't seem him as a top end NFL qb and wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get drafted in the 1st round, and even said some scouts had a 3rd round grade on him. it's obviously still early and I'm sure thing will change, but that doesn't sound like a potential franchise qb to get exicted for.
mcshay also listed his top 4 qbs as watson, kizer, the Miami QB brad kaaya but he said the guy to really look out for is UNC's qb mitch trubisky and he could be the one who rises as the draft gets closer but teams are nervous with his limited experience as a starter.
was watching sportscenter last night and mel kiper has his top 6 qbs and Watson was 3rd! mitch trubisky was #1 and I don't even remember who #2 was but it was someone from texas tech I think, never heard of him. think it was funny all season it was Watson was clear cut #1 pick and now halfway through the season the experts don't even think hes going to be a 1st rounder...
giants/stillers this week and no smack talk??? how confident are you guys in your teams chance this week 1-10...
maybe the afc north can win one vs the nfc east this week as they are currently 1-11-1 which is embarrassing and a huge reason why all 3 of the eagles rivals have such good records! with the eagles luck this season I bet the giants somehow beat the steelers and eagles lose to the damn Bengals SMH. not enjoying the 2nd half of the season very much so im hoping for something good to happen!
steelers may have turned the corner but i never know what theyre gonna look like on a given week. beating the browns and colts without luck is good for player confidence but its to be expected. i will say that their 5 losses have come against teams with a combined record of like 55-10 or something crazy. their remaining games are against the gmen, bill and AFCN so I like their end of season schedule much better than the start. i still see them winning the division. ill say steelers 28-21
do you know who that one win was by? oh yeah the steelers beat the redskins! they also took the cowboys to the wire. i'd say if they go 2-2 against the AFCE and one of the losses was against ur eagles u should feel pretty happy about what the steelers did for you. the rest of the division is garbage thou.
i agree, should be a close game as every game the giants have played this season seems to be close and they are winning almost all of them which is very frustrating as an eagles fan and even worse when I have to hear it from my friends back home. I cant tell if the giants are actually good with their 8-3 record and good passing attack and solid defense, or if their record is making them seem better than they actually are as the stats show only a +18 point differential which puts them in the range where the cards/chargers are and right around .500 and their -5 turnover differential. When you turn the ball over, cant run and always play in close games, eventually you should start losing them esp when the comp gets tougher in the playoffs. guess we'll see how they look against the steelers and the 3 NFCE teams a 2nd time around with 2 of them on the road. I personally think the skins are pretty good as well but im not ready to admit that in public just yet.
as for my eagles, SMH. I guess after last seasons debacle if you told me the eagles would be an average team this year but would walk away with a potential franchise qb for the next 10-15 years I would have taken that in a heart beat. but after a dominate 3-0 start including the most surprising win of the season vs the Steelers 34-3 the expectations were risen and then every game this season has been close until recently. this team will probably finish 8-8/9-7 which is better than most people thought once wentz was named the starter but it will almost feel disappointing. this team isn't ready yet, esp on offense and even more when they are now suffering injuries with 3 linemen out on Monday plus both Mathews getting hurt. the playmakers suck and they really need an upgrade there over the offseason (mike Williams maybe? davon cook please? alshon Jeffrey???) and hopefully build on wentz and see what happens next year SMH.

looks like he isn't going to the draft and in fact is transferring schools:
Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire said he received his release from the school and is seeking a transfer. He is blocked from transferring to a school on the Fighting Irish's 2017 schedule with the exception of North Carolina. Schools that Zaire is considering are Florida, Pittsburgh, UNC and Wisconsin, a source told Matt Fortuna. Zaire graduates in December and will be eligible right away
wonder why Kaepernick decided to kneel during the national anthem?
“A witness, who declined to give her name, said she saw a man at the intersection yelling at McKnight, who was trying to apologize. The man shot McKnight more than once, the witness said. She said he shot McKnight, stood over him and said, “I told you don’t you f— with me.” Then the man fired again.”
The man has been released without charges.
there better be more to this. even if dude is claiming self defense the witness testimony should be enough to keep him the full 48 hours while they decide on charges. wtf?!
i dunno what it was but it just felt like the steelers controlled that entire game, even when the giants were threatening to make it close. gmen def had some untimely and costly penalties (like the holding in the endzone) but the steelers had 12-115 and the giants 4-24 so OBJ complaining about officiating is a little weak. ladarius green is finally healthy and coming into his own but the steelers defense is becoming a problem. artie burns and sean davis (2 rookies) are playing lights out and their redzone and 4th down D over the last 3 weeks have been amazing (opponents are 0-5 on 4th and like 2/7 for Tds in the RZ).
unless the pats beat the ravens (who always get hot at this time and have a good history against the pats) its alllllll gonna come down to christmas day baltimore at pittsburgh. that makes me excited and nervous.
still cant believe the eagles beat the steelers let alone blow them out. no way that would happen at this point in the season ;)
idk what happened to the eagles. they were 5-4 and in every game and even won a few games vs some good teams in steelers, Vikings and falcons. but ever since the seattle game they are a completely different team and have been blown out 3 straight games. it makes no sense, yes there have been injuries which hasn't helped esp on O but the D should not be this bad and I have no idea why.
regardless, the season is over when it comes to trying to make the playoffs. their record has no impact on their draft pick so I cant even cheer for that. at this point, I just hope they are competitive in every game and maybe beat the skins or giants so I don't have to hear it from my friends for a week. hopefully wentz turns it around because he has looked worse as the seasons has went along which isn't a good sign. he was real bad yesterday but at the same time, you cant go on the road with a rookie qb and no running game and throw the ball 60 times. very very disappointing past few weeks...
yeah i saw this as well and was shocked. There has to be more to the story or this witness testimony cant be accurate...
a few updates to this:
#1. looks like the witness testimony from last week that was reported online was inaccurate as the white dude shot McKnight inside his car so there is no way he stood over him and said "don't F with me" or whatever was reported.
#2. looks like he was charged with manslaughter anyway...
pretty dissapointed the eagles couldnt pull that off but oh well. if they had won it would have meant that the christmas day game didnt mean anything so now ive got a reason to get plastered with the in laws again and make a fool of myself. i saw you made it to the game. my cousin mike was there as well. allie talked you into it? did that count as an xmas gift?
fish - as for Bell, hes not going anywhere anytime soon. they already said they will put the franchise tag on him next year and try to work something out. they can do it again the year after and if or some reason they cant get a deal done he will be 28 when hes released. i am a bit concerned that we need to sign AB, bell, tuitt and shazier but for once the steelers are significantly under the cap... like $30m based on last years # and thats gonna go up. Guess kicking the can down the road never did any real damage.
nick i am sorry as well that your teams needs to actually beat the team they are competing against for the division instead of relying on a 4th place team in a different conference to win on the road, but sometimes life is unfair in the NFL. I am disappointed as well as the eagles have been in 5 one score games this season and have had a chance to take the lead in all of them and are 0-5 in those games and I loved that i got to witness our rookie qbs first game tieing/winning td in the last minute of the game but it was all for nothing. I liked going for 2 as well since the game meant nothing so no need to drag out OT and more importantly allie was getting very cold and starting to whine that she wanted to go home so I'm glad it was over one way or the other. when the eagles do actually win games (been awhile) they dominate the run game/time of possession and win the turnover battle so I thought this was going to be another game they won that way but the ravens dlinemen made a play and they won SMH.
as for the game, yes we went. my boy's dad was selling tickets for $100 each in the upper level so I went with it. A LOT of eagles fans were there and my boy who is a season ticket holder said that was the most opposing fans hes ever seen there. I figured eagles are only in bmore once every 8 years (and 3 times EVER) so why not. I told allie it was an early xmas gift but I'm sure she doesn't see it that way but oh well. I wish it wasn't in December as it was pretty cold but I could have been worse. all week it was 20 degrees and it was supposed to rain but it ended up being in the 40s and very little rain. allie is a rookie at this so she didn't dress properly and by the 2nd quarter she was freezing so we got lucky that there was 1 blanket remaining at the store by our section or else I would have been in trouble with her being miserable.
I also ran into motz in the stadium (still rocking his eagles desean Jackson jersey and black fitted hat!) wish I coulda chilled with them pregame but of course it is impossible for allie to be on time for anything but hey at least we were on time for the game so i'll take it!
Philly is pretty close to bmore so that prolly had something to do with it. Motz hit me up Saturday night asking about date spots in DC. I guess he's got a girlfriend and is also ready to venture out of Cecil
nick, after all of last season when you claimed peyton manning to be "done" only to then see his broncos not only end your steelers season but ALSO then go on to win the super bowl you still somehow claimed to be right. after seeing this article below and see how the broncos are on track to miss the playoffs now that PM is no longer their qb are you willing to change your mind that manning was in fact done?
while we all obviously know he was not the same player last year as he was the rest of his career, he was still a good enough game manager and make enough plays with a great D to lead his team to a #1 seed and an eventually super bowl win. guess not anyone can do it as they have pretty much the same team yet are 3rd in their division and are gonna miss the playoffs...
they lost a couple guys - malik jackson and danny trevathon mostly, but c'mon trevor simean will forever be a downgrade over peyton manning no matter how old he is. manning was terrible last year. CJ anderson also has a lot to do with that.
steelers should have won that damn game if not for a fumble by their 3rd string RB. or if AB was able to play. or if not for this nonsense:
josh how you feel about the giants season overall? 11-5 is something I would be proud of, esp after missing the playoffs the past 3-4 years, but being blown out in round 1 doesn't really make for a story book year either. the giants have to find a way to stop allowing odb to make himself a target for criticism as well, whether it be the whole kicking net bs, the Miami trip, the punching a wall after the game, etc. being young and successful early on in NYC can be great but it can also turn real quickly with the media there and you can go from a hero to a villain over night and then a cancer.
Great season overall, best part is the youth on this team, only going to get better. Obviously Eli is on the back nine now, priority has to be shoring up the offensive line, and getting improvements over Will Tye and Victor Cruz. You do that, become a run first team, no reason we can't take it all next year. A lot to like
wooo and were back on the forum. got me a new laptop (and a few other things going on) which kept me away for a bit. lets kick things back off with the obvious... Steelers v Patriots
let me start by saying I watched nearly the entire texans - pats game saturday night and the pats looked very much like a beatable team. sure they covered the 16 point spread but that included a kick return TD and the most anemic playoff offense (qb?) of all time. if the pats turn it over twice against the steelers I see them controlling the ball well enough to keep them under 24. at that point the win is fair game.
the steelers lost to the pats earlier this season by 11 but without big ben. they lost to them last season by 7 but without lev bell. this is the first time *ever* that the pats will play the steelers with ben, bell and AB suiting up at the same time. belicheck loves to take away the opponents best player -- but in this situation who is that?
i wont even get started on the differences in the steelers defense beteen week 7 and now.
im not saying the steelers should be favored or that they should win. but this is a legacy defining game for big ben and mike tomlin. they havent played the pats in the playoffs for 12 years (bill cowher) and they havent faired too well against them in the regular season. if ben can slay this dragon and get back to the super bowl he will have done just about everything in his career you could ask a qb to do. i really feel good about this game and cannot wait for sunday night!!!
all fair points and I def think the steelers can pull this out as well, but with that said...
- as you stated you watched the whole Texans/pats game and while it was close I don't think there was ever a point where anyone thought the Texans would win. sure, the pats had a kickoff td which helped, but they also had a fumbled kickoff that gave the Texans the ball at the 20 and I think there was another turnover deep in their territory as well which is the only reason why the score was close in the 1st half. in the 2nd half it seemed like the pats could have scored at any point and that was how they ended up winning by almost 20.
- if you're gonna use the pats winning ugly against them, how about the steelers win over the chiefs? they couldn't score a td and were a holding penalty away from the game being tied late. I don't see the steelers beating the pats on the road without scoring a td this weekend...
- as you also mentioned, steelers have a ROUGH history of playing against the pats, esp on the road, and some teams have another teams number and know how to beat them.
HOWEVER, it will be interesting to see how bell and AB look vs them at the same time which has never happened vs them so that is the biggest difference. the biggest thing I say the steelers have going for them is the pats schedule has been EXTREMLY easy this year, and for a team to be in the championship game and play 1 good team (home vs seattle) says a lot. there's a chance the steelers come out hot and the pats D was a little overrated due to fact they haven't played anyone and the steelers just beat them so it should be a good game and I'm def looking forward to it as well.
the thing that gives me hope about the chiefs game is 2 things:
1) the steelers were inside the chiefs 30 seven times. if they turn even 2 of those into TDs its a blowout. their offense has been fantastic inside the redzone this season so i think that was more of an outlier and doubt it happens again. completely agree that FGs wont do it this weekend, but I dont think 0/5 in the redzone happens either.
2) even without the points the steelers defense won the game for them. thats different than it was even earlier this season. opponents points during this 9 game winning steak:
thats one game above 20 points. obviously the pats offense is better than any of those teams but i have NEVER felt as confident in going against tom brady. steelers defense is soo fast these days especially with bud dupree back and sean davis and artie burns playing lights out.
should be an amazing game and its exactly the one I want.
terrible fit if so, we all know AP's struggles to run out of the Gun and the Giants primarily run their offense out of the Gun... not to mention one who is turning 32.... No thanks this draft is FULL of RB's i'll draft one.
2 weeks in a row I hit the 1st game of a 2 team parlay and both weeks the stillers F it up for me SMH. ok nick, 24 hours are up from that sorry performance how you holding up? I know you had high hopes going into the game but the steelers just cant play with the pats for whatever reason. having bell get hurt obviously didn't help but they still gave up almost 40 points and didn't come close to getting to brady which is pretty much the only way you can beat him. redzone problems were once again an issue, how do you not score a td when it is 1st and goal at the 1 foot line?? that was a huge turnaround as I think it would have been a 3-4 point game if they scored a td but then the stop made it an 8 point game before the half. and what happen to the D? they lead the league in sacks the 2nd half of the year and I think they got to him one time the whole game!
sure was a sorry performance. this one falls solely on the coaching staff. rushing 3 and playing zone was a bad game plan to start and the made 0 adjustments. it was so obvious what they were doing wrong and did nothing to fix it. i dunno, it was really frustrating.
bell getting hurt prolly didnt change much since the D was so bad. once he did they just took away AB and the super young 2-5 WRs couldnt step up in a game like this. we missed bryant more than ever. i even felt good going into halftime down by 8 but like i said the pats made adjustments and the steelers didnt and things just fell apart. it was prolly that goal line stand that doomed them since they could have only been down 3 at HT.
still, the future is bright for the steelers. i dont care about ur bets and this team has found a way the last 9 weeks to wins games at any cost. it all came crashing down sunday but with everyone on offense coming back, plus bryant, to go along with a defense that got young experience (for once) and i think they are in a good spot for the next several years until ben retires... as long as someone else takes out the pats in the playoffs.
what happened to wheaton? I thought he was supposed to step into the #2 role but I barley heard his name this season it was all Rodgers or heyword-bey. did he get hurt at all?
he was out for the season with a shoulder injury he got preseason. heyward bey missed like 7 games with an ankle injury. ladarius green with a concussion. they were banged up. the problem was sammie coates caught fire early then broke his hand and sucked the rest of the way. there was no legitimate #2 and it showed sunday.
